Actually, the old man did have a gun this morning when three mexicans broke into his home.

He managed to kill one of them with his handgun. But maybe if he had an AR15 he could have got all three.

Gun nuts seem to think that you need a handgun in this case.

The house across the street from me was broken into a few years ago. All that was required to chase them off was a rather skinnny run of a sixteen year old boy in his boxer shorts. Criminals are criminals because they are cowards and lazy, and nine times out of then they'll bolt the moment they are confronted by anyone...

On one hand, this older man became judge, jury, and executioner. I'm guessing if had just fired a shot in their direction they would have fled. On the other hand, break into someone's house and you get what you deserve including being shot dead.

gun is not going to help you if you are fast asleep and they manage to sneak up on you - you simply booby trap all entry points

We need to be able to own nukes

Nukes are arms, so I don't understand why each of us are not allowed to have personal nukes. It's a right that is expressly granted under the second amendment.

Three men, at least one armed, break into the home of a man in his 70's who defends himself and some find this offensive. Congrats to those of you that would have put yourself at their mercy. Wow.

Seriously though, I'm glad he and his were unhurt. Sounds like the would-be robbers dropped their handgun in his garden as they were running.

Just because he wasn't part of a militia ensuring the security of the free state doesn't mean he isn't also allowed to bear arms himself. It's called freedom, and it's not complete anarchy because we have things called laws.

If you randomly murder someone on the street with your weapon you will face serious consequences, but if you murder someone who breaks into your home you will likely face minor consequences.

I'm cool with some one blowing away someone they caught in their house. I honestly am. It's scary to even think that one person has suddenly become judge, jury, and executioner, but at a certain point a line is crossed and self defense becomes a last resort. That line is crossed the moment someone breaks into a house.

At the same time, this man is going to face a massive legal battle that will most likely bankrupt him. He'll be sued by someone's wife or mother for "wrongful death" (which is pathetic really), and he'll end up in court.

But what I said about my sixteen year old neighbor is true. Criminals are more scared than the average public is. And when confronted with such a situation a criminal knows that breaking in and entering is one thing, but kidnapping is completely different thing.

best security for your home is a large german shepherd...and a shot gun.
