huge drop in traffic.. superbowl?
 

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone has noticed a significant drop in traffic yesterday?

I know I did, I am wondering if it was due to the Superbowl? Does this stuff usually happen? Anyone else notice anything?

Tell me it is not just a coincidence..

Oh, interesting. I wonder if that has something to do with it. Most of my traffic comes from Google.. Damn, I was really hoping it just a shit night..

I was more or less hoping it was due to the superbowl.. I don't know how but I dropped 50% traffic over night... It's brutal. Any ideas how I can get back to where I was? I have no idea what happened I guess... Curses, Yarrrr...

Ok, I have some other strange info.. Can anyone help me figure this one out.
My site AFC has always been PR0.
I have dropped A TON of traffic over the last 2 days, especially yesterday (sunday).
I actually just checked my PR rank because Colmike7 mentioned a change and thought I would see if I have anything new showing up.. Well, AFC is now PR1.. It has always been 0, getting good traffic, now is 1, and gets way less traffic...?

Anyone have any idea how this makes sense?

Have you had a lot of image traffic? Google made a change, now your site does not show up in the background in google image search. I have been seeing a lot less click throughs.

That too. People have to be more descriptive with their image searches, so be more descriptive with your alt/title tags and contextual links :)

Actually no, I don't think I had much in the image search. I have only my index warning page indexed on google, and my images all blocked by robot file.

It's so strange though that going from PR 0 to PR 1 resulted in WAY less traffic..

Yeah, that happens all the time..

Look at your stats. Start with today, then yesterday, etc. For each day, analyze and graph your traffic sources and top 10-20 incoming keywords and see if you can figure out what happened :)

I have been checking the keywords etc, and have noticed that the number of impressions has gone down. I don't know how that could be. In webmaster tools I still have the same number of "sites linking in" etc. Could it be that some of the sites I was linked to lost PR?

I never had a ton of traffic. I went from 6k/day to 3.5k/day over superbowl weekend. With such "low" numbers, I figured it could easily have been caused by superbowl, especially since the majority of the users to my site are from USA.. Does that sorta make sense? or am I hoping for the best here..

Traffic has actually picked up a bit this afternoon, slowly creeping back to almost previous levels.. Quite bizarre, I really am confused over here. It must have something to do with google though because that is where most of my hits come from.

How about maybe searching those terms yourself and see where you come up in the SERPs? (Be sure your personalized results aren't showing..) and if you've done this before, note if the spot has risen or dropped, also noting the sites that do come up higher than yours and research those as well. Note the visitors flow of previous days if you use G Analytics, too.

Since PR just changed and the Superbowl happened yesterday, I would just do work as usual and go into research mode in a few days in case it's just a one time thing. :upsidedow

I was never affected by the Superbowl before.. but I guess I am taking it hard in the end zone this year ;)

Imagine that. I had always thought Super Bowl parties were actually circle jerks and should lead to an increase in traffic but I guess not.
