Smartest post on GFY for a long time...

Was this one by "The Ghost":

<rant>
GFY needs a politics & mainstream news subforum. Not directing this towards the OP but it's near impossible to find actual adult business threads. Have to sift through all these bullshit news threads that the world outside of the USA wouldn't know or care about and have zero to do with business.
</end rant>

While I am guilty of posting news and political threads so rarely do I see us helping each other with coding, marketing, fighting exploits etc and spreading real knowledge about the business other than self promotion.

RyuLion 02-03-2013 08:28 AM

I agree, its over 80% of that shit..its getting out of hand..specially tons of gun related threads...

Dirty F 02-03-2013 08:31 AM

This has never been a business forum. There are plenty of real business forums.

blackmonsters 02-03-2013 08:32 AM

Well, consider that the name of this forum is "Fucking around and Program discussion".

lucas131 02-03-2013 08:40 AM

more separation means less activity on each and it means dead forum soon

Yep.

I'm okay with all of the screw around threads, the politics threads? they are all mildly entertaining and at least encourage conversation. The recent wave of troll threads are getting to me though.

There won't be less activity if forum implemented what I suggested months ago:

When user posts in main forum he/she should be able to choose "biz" prefix if thread is biz related. And if people wanted to read only biz threads they would just click a button and only threads with biz prefix would be displayed.

There is no reason not to implement this. And it actually would even improve activity because those people that are tired of going through crap threads would be able to find biz threads easier, hence they would like their forum experience more and they would visit more often, and they would post more often.

DatePoster 02-03-2013 09:08 AM

I dislike poo

Minte 02-03-2013 09:31 AM

I never saw the problem with just reading the threads that I want to read.

As far as real business threads.. Who really thinks that anyone successful is going to share anything worth reading. There is a reason people are successful..they keep what they know to themselves.

suesheboy 02-03-2013 09:32 AM

I know I come here to kill time and goof off and yet other times I really want to learn.

A biz prefix with a sort/hide function would rock!

Barry-xlovecam 02-03-2013 09:42 AM

In a nutshell, Drama Sells.

You can skim past the posts that are not business related. Unfortunately, that is 80% of the list.

However, no one is stopping anyone from opening a business related post and altering the balance ... It seems to me that most of business related posts get a much smaller response than the many "drama posts."

The shoe is on the other foot now? Or, the cause/effect relation becomes apparent?

We do have sub-forum for that its this one, check out this one for more webmaster related support and information... https://gfy.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27 :pimp

Rochard 02-03-2013 10:37 AM

GFY is what it is. While we used to have more business related threads, GFY has always been a "anything goes" kind of board. This is where we goof off.

lazycash 02-03-2013 01:50 PM

At least the US election is now over so we don't have every other Canadian posting threads with their thoughts on US politics.

There actually is a gfy sub forum where intellectual political discussion takes place, but its always been invite only and requires a separate login. http://politics.gfy.com Since I'm not one of the mods of this sub forum, I'm not at liberty to hand out invites. Rest assured though, they are looking out for smart posters here and you will be notified should they want to give you access.

PornMD 02-03-2013 01:54 PM

I give the slight edge to what Teencat says. Splitting it would have been nice in GFY's prime, but right now unfortunately, a political subforum would probably be MORE popular than the main one and splitting it up would only hurt things.

2013 02-03-2013 01:56 PM

I like vodka

BigChad 02-03-2013 03:18 PM

Whats sad, is I haven't found a better forum. I'm trying to learn. And all you read here is I like poo, there's no money in porn, or GFY. I need to learn, I haven't had much luck at all for info here other then common sense. Nothing truly useful.

why not have categories when starting a thread?
- biz
- guns related
- politics
- completely useless

then have an option on top to filter, by thread category?

Too much narrowing down, single biz prefix would suffice - biggest issue for many people is finding biz threads. And for those who like it as it is - it won't change anything if they did not use filter. My suggestion is simple enough and it will only benefit forum.

livexxx 02-03-2013 05:24 PM

How about a "request for subforums" subforum?

12clicks 02-03-2013 06:51 PM

There's more surfers here than hobbyists, more hobbyists than business people.
This is what you end up with.

i've thought the same for years, sure some people give us some informative posts/threads a few times a year but for the most part people are extremely protective of their business practices.

EranG 02-04-2013 07:01 AM

agreed !

and how will you moderate this without adding more moderators/work? I mean you know currently sober will mark his i like poo threads with the biz prefix ;)

Ban those offenders. Lets say a diclaimer pops up whenever somebody choose biz prefix, diclaimer would say that "if you choose it for non biz thread you will be banned" or something like that. Aside currently retarded there won't be many who would do that. :2 cents:
Ps: Its nothing new, we have people posting in the wrong forum now, for example buy and sell threads in main forum and so on. So couple non biz threads marked with biz prefix would not do any noticeable harm.

Joshua G 02-04-2013 09:57 AM

the people who are successful, for the most part, figured it out themselves through hard work, trial & error, & are not going to just give away their hard won wisdom to a troll board.

success is observing what others do, copy, test, retool, test, fail, try something else, test, success. Lots of hard work for nothing for a long time. Success is not supposed to be easy or anyone could do it. See i have lots of knowledge but im a lazy fuck. so i fail. congrats to the winners.

Agreed, I think that pretty obvious these days. I'd argue that less than 50% of this board's demographic is actually in the industry, beyond as a means to get free porn and earn weekend beer money.

I hate forums that have 1000 different sub forums, I kind of wish the buy sell shit was in the same forum here, as I miss some good deals. Ideally there would be plenty of bus threads on here to keep people busy, there used to be, but there arn't any more. Although I come here looking for business threads, it is the random crap that keeps me interested in actually coming here at all. So although I would love to see the board filled with good business threads, like was mentioned earlier, if we take out the rest of the stuff, this place would be a ghost town soon.

If you're asking for filters and separate forums and griping about non-biz threads you simply have no clue what GFY is.
