Networking gurus - HELP!
I'm about to lose my mind here.
I have been getting 50mbps on my desktop using a D-Link N150 Pico USB adapter forever, and all of a sudden I began being limited to about 5mbps down. Tried updating drivers, removing and reinstalling, etc. Nothing worked so I went out and picked up a Netgear N300 adapter which literally worked once then stopped. It hit a little over 50mbps down and 10mbps up, then dropped my connection. I restarted and it took a minute to connect, and I'm back to being limited to 5mbps down, and <3mbps up. If I test it on three other laptops or my phone, I get 40-50mbps, so I know it's not my internet, the router or modem which are both new as well. Any ideas on wtf is going on here? Getting highly annoyed! |

Nope. Still disconnecting any time I go to download something. Looks like I'll be returning this.

If you have any other USB devices plugged in try unplugging them and see if it improves as I think USB hub shares bandwidth across all ports. Also make sure the computer is not allowed to put the port to sleep in properties.

Comcast? Sometimes you have to disable something in the firmware but for the life of me I cannot remember what it is.

Yeah QoS. When I got a new router I had to disable because it was like dialup. But if it's not that...

It sounds like something I have been dealing with.
Mine is because of the Auto Channel select setting on the router. Its seems I have different interference at different times of day - Log in to your router and if the wireless channel select is on Auto change it to 1, 6 or 11. Find the best one and then you just have to change it yourself when the speeds crap out. I have now worked out when I need to change it but it takes a while. The Auto select is just fucked basically. The other thing I found out is that if a 'g' device connects to an 'n' router all the devices go to 'g' including the 'n' devices. So change to a high 4K or 5k only setting and that will block any 'g' devices. That might work.... |
