RIP Mayor ed koch

was sad to read he passed on this morning. I miss times square from the 80s, when you could walk down 42nd street & step over the crackheads, catch a peep show. Now its just another mall. :(

Heard about his death on the news earlier. Sad, but at least he lived a long, awesome life. He always seemed like such a good guy. Anyone remember when he was the judge on People's Court? He was the best!

_Richard_ 02-01-2013 11:33 AM

peoples court?

Sarah_Jayne 02-01-2013 11:44 AM

When I was a kid, he was the only mayor outside of Philadelphia I could name.

I miss the peep shows. When I was a kid in NJ we would take an hour long bus ride into the Port Authority and spend the day at the peep shows... First time I saw a naked chick. Good times....

RIP.

He Always reminded me of Grandpa from the Munsters. I remember when he went apeshit about dog bites or dog neutering on the peoples court. He literally walked off the bench. It was awesome

My favorite memory of 42nd Street from one summer--1982 or '83: I was heading from the Port Authority on 8th Avenue towards 7th Ave, and saw a white guy, no shirt, shoes, or socks, standing in the street, maybe ten feet out from the kerb, repeatedly yelling the "N" word. Because of the demographics of that part of 42nd Street, his behavior was extremely foolhardy.

I saw Ed Koch a few times on the street when I lived in NYC, and once heard him give a speech outside City Hall. He seemed to embody the spirit of the city in those days. RIP.

Me too! I have always associated him with Grandpa Munster for some reason.

Rip Ed Koch.

I remember one of his favorite things to do was walk through some of the badass areas of Harlem and Queens and yell out, "I'm Mayor Koch...how do you like me?"

Balls of brass. They don't mak'em like him anymore.

"How'm I doing?"

its definitely a somber day here in the city. i'd take a dead koch over a living bloomberg any day.

Nice!

i remember going to the 86 auto show, when it was at columbus circle. the bus went past all these peep shows. then walking past newstands there would be hustler, penthouse in full view, not in the back. might be what got me hooked on the porn biz. :winkwink:
