Mailer Software on Server or Hosted?
Howdy :)
I was wondering if you guys could offer some advice as to what solutions you use for your member mailers. I know some people run their own mail servers using software such as Oempro, but I have heard it can be a bit of a resource hog and that there probably shouldn't be anything else on that server. I know others use some sort of mailing service that runs on another server somewhere and I can login to run mailers as well. In your opinion, what do you think works best and is most cost effective? Unless you are planning to become a full time mailer, you're better off going with an ESP and doing a simple fire and forget.
They will have white listed IP's typically, and be able to inbox better than trying to do it all yourself in-house unless you are actually going to spend the time and effort to learn how to handle it all properly. Just make sure that your list is DOUBLE OPT-IN and CAN-SPAM compliant. Otherwise, you are going to have problems. Good luck chief. |
I use mailchimp for my mainstream mailing lists. I used to be a network/systems admin and email is no problem for me, but not having to deal with blacklists and shit makes it worth it. It's cheap, too, you can use a free account until your lists pass 2000 people.

It also depends of you are spamming or not $0.02
If you have qualified lists, hosted is fine, if you're just using lists to spam, then pay for a revile, that way you won't lose your hosting. |
You can always use YNOT Mail...

I'd look at Lyris if you want a hosted solution, they are the only real ESP I know that allows adult.
If hosting yourself, then use Interspire Email Marketer which is the software Ynot whitelabel and resell. |
