Best encoding software ! ? !

Sooooo, I have over 4000 HD videos that I want to re encode along with tons of new stuff coming in. We are using some old software that just isnt that great and I need to get with the times.

Obviously I need something that I can drop a video into and it will encode it 5-10 different ways at once. Hopefully in a timely manner.. lol

What are people using these days for HD video encoding?

Sorenson

I'd like to know the answer too. I personally like using Any DVD Converter Pro.

MaDalton 01-24-2013 02:24 PM

i can do it for you ;)

otherwise - since money is probably no problem for you - it's Harmonic ProMedia Carbon

and btw - by using watchfolder you can achieve exactly what you would like to do - without even moving the original files

Get yourself a new video card, these work great:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130809

Then anything offering GPU acceleration. Make sure to download the current drivers from Nvidia though, don't use whatever is on the EVGA disc in the box.

Also Sorenson Squeeze works very well and can batch.

Thanks, been reading up on them. We basically have been using the old version of Sorenson

Did you upgrade the Commodore 64 ?:winkwink::1orglaugh

EddyTheDog 01-24-2013 05:35 PM

Have you thought about doing it in The Cloud?

Have a look at http://www.pandastream.com/pricing-signup - I have been playing with it and it works very well.

that one is 6 grand

The other one everyone seems to like "sorenson" is 600 bucks and seems to have
all of the same features. At least the ones we need.

I am looking into a couple of these cloud encoding options too.

Mike, if you need to rencode video, just use xilisofts video converter. You can do hundreds to thousands of conversions at once.

http://www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html

Works on both PC and Mac. You can dump (as far as I know) as many videos as you need and do a batch conversion from just about 1 format to another.

You'll have to do a specific output and wait (however long it takes from your thousands of videos) then make a new list of settings.

Pro Media: $6000
Sorenson: $600
Xilisoft Ultimate (All the tools): $59.95 and it'll do the job you need it to do.

Others are suggesting cloud services or offering you to ship it to them. All these options are just not practical.

Cloud: unless you have a home uplink of 50/100 mbps (even then) it's not practical. Those videos probably run hundreds of gigabytes

Shipping product: Not very practical and would probably take weeks or months on the size you have.

Good luck with your choice.

If this is who I think it is bandwidth is not an issue. I suspect the vids are on high BW servers.

That's a whole other ballgame, then yes, get some server side solution... which will be much pricer of course.

The other guys in this thread are much better consultants in that case.

Libav - free software

KillerK 01-25-2013 10:33 AM

Hey Mike do you still play WoW ?

tremens 02-01-2013 03:58 PM

Take a look at our program, Tremendum Transcoder, it does all you need and can simplify the way you add media to your sites greatly. 4k videos is not a problem... install it in a powerful server if you need a fast conversion of many videos. For day to day uses, like adding some updates, it can be run from any server alongside with other services with a lower priority, to keep things running smooth.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me :thumbsup
