OWS was a bad idea. They had good intentions, but occupying city parks, costing local towns money, and going head to head with local police was counter productive. The local cities didn't cause any of the problems, and they are in the boat - going broke.

so how is the protest going head to head with the police if that was the case?

for occupy vancouver.. we had people die at these camps in the 3 or so days they were up

everyone here was 'shocked' by this and made sure all those people went back to dying on the streets

where they belong.

Tittytweaker 01-17-2013 04:12 PM

Interesting idea - terrible execution. Only a fraction of the people there seemed to have any kind of purpose, the rest basically treated it like Woodstock.

ottopottomouse 01-17-2013 04:24 PM

Got cold and went home / found a new fad to protest about.

That whole OWS movement was so stupid, it was embarrassing. All those kids were protesting "greed and capitalism." They would say, "Greed is bad. We need to end capitalism!" OWS was pure ignorance and hate.

The protests didn't go "head to head" with police in a traditional sense, but rather took up large amounts of time and personnel with multiple issues - everything from theft, rape, to sanitation issues, all the way up to the mayor's office of various towns who had to come up with a position on all of this and then had to take action (or not take action).

Here's an article that says NYC blew through $6 million on costs related to OWS:
http://abcnews.go.com/Business/occup...ry?id=14975940

All of this money spent is our tax dollars, and what did we get for it? Nothing at all.

BigChad 01-17-2013 04:41 PM

Media spun it, and ignored it. Plenty of behind the scene's footage of the REAL movement, not what was being broadcasted on the circus channel.. I mean nightly news.

I have to disagree.

Greed is a problem in the USA.

Made in China. Part time workers. Minimum wage pay. No benefits. Wall Street bankers. Etc. Etc. Big Corps use media to make people think Americans are too lazy to work. That is not true. I wouldn't work for a company that shits on my head, would you?

Am I saying we should disallow protests? No, not at all. This is what makes America what it is - the right to speak our mind and our right to protest.

If you want to protest, protest. Go out and shut down Wall Street for a day or your favorite bridge in San Francisco, don't cause any damage, and get your point across, and don't leave a mess behind. There might even be some extra added expenses for police, etc, whatever - If they can do it for the 4th of July they can do it for a protest so long as it's not a daily or weekly thing.

But hundreds or thousands of people camping out in park causing millions of dollars in damage is just not accepable. Most people don't even think about this - If NYC spent $6 million on OWS, that just came out of the pocket of New Yorkers. It's their tax dollars.

and yet the 2 hour news coverage gets no traction, and the 6 day protest gets national attention

hate to break it to you..

That doesn't make sense.... When FEMA doesn't do their job well or has failed to perform in the past, everyone covers that story, and the news lets everyone know that it's the presidents fault and there is TONS of analysis about how the president is letting people down. Why wouldn't the news cover that story now? I don't get it.

weird....

No, sorry. Having society's bottom mistake success for greed is our only problem.
My guess is that you never worked a hard day in your life but somehow want to live as we'll as those who have. (Just like the idiots of the occupy movement)

Hey, fine, great. It's their tax payer dollars they are spending, not mine, because I don't live in NYC or anywhere else they protested. So sweat off my back.

Supz 01-17-2013 07:31 PM

They went back to sleeping on the streets in seperate locations like they used to. It was mostly crackheads and bums before

BIGTYMER 01-17-2013 08:07 PM

They needed to take it off the street and fuck with the money. The money is what is ruining us. The money is what big capital like Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, etc. has with which to hijack the political process, and purchase any and all levers of reform within our government. They had the nation's attention, and Wall Street ran unimpeded, the people that brought the nation's economy to the brink of collapse continued making the same money they would otherwise. Then they send more and more of it to Washington and elsewhere to purchase ever more of our political infrastructure and to elect people to high courts who would equate this money with speech and rule to influence our political process. Fuck with that. Find a way to fuck with the money and you'll get somewhere. You can only stand around on the streets for so long before people start wondering what the fuck it is you're trying to accomplish.
