How fucked up are the fines in your country?

Ok... driving in Amsterdam... trying to drive through the green light so increasing speed to make it... oh shit that was a red light... flash... flash.... 2 flashes? what the fuck???
Getting two fines... one for driving through red traffic light and one for driving 17 kilometers too fast too make it throught the green light in the first place:

Total: 220 + 114 = 334 euro = 443 dollar...

Is this normal or is it just Holland???

Sly 01-16-2013 05:41 PM

Why are you expecting them to only give you one when you clearly violated two traffic laws?

You don't think it's a fucking nazi-trick? I mean... they thought about it... "what do people do at traffic light?" they step on the gas a little to make it through the green light... If they don't make it they get a fucking double penetration... They fucking thought about it... how to fuck you the hardest...

Struggle4Bucks 01-16-2013 05:46 PM

And even if you make it through the green light... you get a speeding ticket...

Mierenneukers how we call that. Transleted: ant-fuckers

AllAboutCams 01-16-2013 05:50 PM

thats normal here

shake 01-16-2013 05:59 PM

It's been like that in Canada for a few years now too.Fines are big.

Struggle4Bucks 01-16-2013 06:01 PM

Even the police officers are complaining and not willing to write tickets anymore. The head of police openly stated on national television that fines are too high...

spiederman 01-16-2013 06:03 PM

well actually the traffic rules state that on orange you can drive trough if you can make it before the light turns red, if you know you can't make it, you have to stop.

Fines like this should be related to a persons income; a % :2 cents:

You were speeding when you went through a red light. You broke two laws at the same time, and you got nailed for both. You paid about $200 for each, which seems about right.

Be happy - if you got pulled over for two violations at once and the cop was in a bad mood, they could upgrade you to reckless driving.

Last ticket I got was for driving over 100 MPH and I got nailed for $800.

If Beckham gets caught speeding, fining him 200 Euros isn't going to worry him, but if someone on low income gets caught speeding, they don't need much of a fine to ensure they don't want to do it again. :2 cents:

334 euros is a huge amount of money for normal people to pay... if you consider all other ridiculous costs of living here. It's perverted...

Completely agree :thumbsup

L-Pink 01-16-2013 07:00 PM

Speeding thru a red light??? As a motorcycle rider I think a bigger fine and suspension aren't too strict.

Unless I was in my Ford F-250 then it's pretty funny when I t-bone you.

.

Supz 01-16-2013 07:01 PM

I live in NYC, most parking tickets are over $100

Yeah... speeding through a red light while it just turned red 0.00001 seconds ago. Not
driving through red while others have green or allready driving...

The "Unless" sounds better....

Yeah well... not paying for parking is very dangerous, especially for motorcycle riders so the fine should be even higher:helpme

No.... It's perverted... here it's 50 euros but we have fulltime parkingwatchers driving around the city 24/7 with the sole purpose to write tickets... it's just a money machine... nothing more nothing less and that's perverted

Pretty normal here too.

Fucking pricks are using fines to subsidise the budget (seriously!).

I received a fine for $160 for not paying a toll road. Now the toll roads are owned privately and I have one of their stupid fucking e-tags yet the police sent me an infringement notice. Ended up wasting many hours of my time to get out of that fine, however the one thing that really pissed me off was that a private company was using the police to send out infringement notices!

Another example is I got a speeding fine, paid it and thought that was that. Three months later I receive a fine for $900+ for not nominating the driver (company car). This was an accident, it was not a thought of 'ooo i'll get out of points on my licence' - just a matter of being busy and not taking the time to read through the mumbo fucking jumbo that every cockbag wants you to decipher these days.

Could go on for days about friends and family members fines for absolute bullshit reasons.

Disturbing also to hear that police is doing that for a private company...

$900+ :1orglaugh Jesus fucking wept... it should be in the constitution protecting people against $900+ fines...

In Victoria (southern state in AUs) a few years back their traffic fine revenue was in the order of $90 million per year. A new premier was elected for that state and the following year their traffic revenue went to $450 million :helpme

I agree with the $900 fine, I tried as hard as I possibly could to by pass the fine, even spoke to a law firm who specialised in traffic fines and they said it was not worth it and I would end up spending many thousands and end up with the same fine.

ZeroHero 01-16-2013 08:10 PM

Actually, I learned that the law in Canada is "Failing to stop for a YELLOW unless unsafe to do so" is the rule. My man got a $175 fine because he didn't stop for a yellow and the only other car at the intersection was a bored cop. Colour me educated. :(

Nope, you're on a board where people don't wanna pay $400+ on driving fines.:)

I wish they'd put more radars/cams up in Spain, drivings fucking terrible.

Markul 01-17-2013 01:34 AM

You got off cheap, do that shit in my country and you get to retake your drivers license (that's around 2-3K right there) and you get a ticket of around 1000 USD.

In finland the fines go based on your salary. A few years back a guy got 100.000?+ fines for speeding.

lagcam 01-17-2013 02:23 AM

You knew you were travelling 17km above the speed limit as you approached a junction.

Sounds reckless to me. I think you were lucky to not lose your license. :2 cents:

Petra 01-17-2013 02:34 AM

Don't drive in Amsterdam??

I took my test in Sloterdijk and that was enough for me. I prefer taking the train into Amsterdam or using the p&r at Biljmer. Usually turns out cheaper than parking in the city.

You think that's bullshit?

Poland just bought 29 undercover police cruisers with built in photoradar. They take photos *WHILE DRIVING* and in both directions. They don't stop you. They managed to take something like 350 photos in 15 or 30 minutes.

When you get the ticket in the mail, they refuse to send you the photo. You have to go to court to see the photo.

Now they are tryign to make it so those tickets are administrative fines, meaning that the vehicle owner HAS to pay regardless of if it was them or not, and then they can go to court to see the photo (incurring court costs ~$1500) to see if it was them or not and eventually get their money back.

So basically - someone waves their finder and you have to pay. No matter what.

Complete. Bullshit.

You guys don't have yellow lights there?

Responsible drivers see a yellow light and start the braking process. You only drive through a yellow light when it is too late to safely brake.

They US has had them for at least a decade. They go one further and put them in vans that look disabled. I mostly only see them in construction zones but DC is notorious for having them on the highways at 2 am when the road is wide open.

I don't know if you get an imagine or not... Never gotten a ticket for one.

We can literally drive on the sidewalk, run a red light, not have a drivers license, and get into a fist fight with the cop who finally catches us after a car chase (if they can even be bothered to chase us), and it won't cost more than $50 - $100.
