Wikipedia as a traffic source?
Has anybody tried utilizing Wikipedia as a source of traffic, by editing/adding content to specific articles and then linking back to your websites as an authority on the subject?
I would imagine that they have guards in place to stop people abusing the wiki this way but I'd also think there are times when certain market segment sites could actually legitimately link back to their websites. |
no good luck

I have some links on to mainstream sites, it doesn't get any traffic. Gets me lots of link from people who scrape wikipedia though.

I try to post some cam girl stuff on there... shot down in about 15 minutes everytime though. |
I had this southpark site yeaaaaars ago, and I linked back from the article on southpark to my site. It actually got some good traffic but they removed it after a couple of days.

Got listed once in external links for a pornstar.. somebody thought my site is the official site.. got a few hits, but nothing major.

I used to do this for pornstar names for those I owned the (Pornstar)(Name)Blog.com, worked a bit but they eventually caught on to It :)

Only when i've done the whole page. Editing/adding just gets your link removed.

It's guerrilla tactic and they will edit you fast if you spam it
|
it prooves how desperate you are and you should consider visiting a shrink.
wikipedia is a nice tool that has been created by mankind. instead of abusing it, you should support it . i hope you feel bad and go donate 5$ thru paypal to wikipedia foundation, for even considering using wikipedia as a spam tool and i give you absolution. |
