xterra's are a little overpriced for 4 wheel drive. if you just want an suv with a rack get a kia, most xterras are 2 wd
|
I looked at them last summer, for hauling snowboards, mountain bikes, and things like that. The problem I found with it was that it felt cheap. It has a cheap looking interior and rides really tough. I didn't like it at all. So I tried the Pathfinder and it was much better. Smooth ride, great for hauling, nicer interior than the Xterra, and that's what we bought. Just my :2 cents:

my buddy has one and doesn't really like it very much, he's thinking about ditching it as soon as he can. he's had quite a few problems w/ it (all under warranty though), both in the driveline and w/ the roofrack becoming partially detached from the vehicle when he lashed bikes to it...
|
i looked at the pathfinder in 2000, if you are taller then 6 foot sitting in the back seat sucks. i am 5'11'' and my head was hitting the top
|
what kind of sport cars to you have currently ?
|
Xterra's are not that shabby offroad if you trick em out a little bit, went offroading with a club of mostly xterra's not bad.
I am not too fond of the looks either and yes the interior needs some serious help (since the price tag on these things is not that low, interior quality should be better I think) If you really want something fun to haul surfboards I just bought this could ship it off to you for the right price... http://www.torontofilm.ca/130/126-2663_IMG.JPG http://www.torontofilm.ca/130/130-3094_IMG.JPG http://www.torontofilm.ca/130/130-3093_IMG.JPG pick it up this weekend....... have another Landrover defender 110 for sale and a 1972 LandRover SeriesIIa as well for sale if anyone is interested |
My Dad has one and he kinda regrets it, especially after driving around in my 4Runner. Everytime we're driving he says "I should have gotten one of these." He's only had it about 2 years and already talking about getting something else. I wouldn't get one.
|
lol.... no, I'm just looking for something new, reliable, & functional.... something my girl can take to work, and still use on the weekends for beach stuff.... no Mad Max vehicles or overpriced consumer versions of military HUMMVs or any of that stuff.... hell, I'd be happy with a regular ol' pickup, but she wants an SUV....
nofx: we currently have a convertible Mustang and a Z28. Both suck for shopping as well as the beach. Time for them to go. |
Durango all the way, nothing else comes close.......
|
so, the general concensus so far seems to be that the Xterra sucks....
hmmm.... okay. |
funny you say mad max...I have been dying to paint it flat black....but my wife will kill me if I do..lol

Used to have one.. they are pretty decent vehicles for the price. You can get the 2000's (as in pic.. had that in 2000) for like ~$10k now... new they are/were 25k for a SEV6 new so I guess they hold thier value like a 29 year old prostitute. |
keep in mind that it's all of a mile and 1/2 to her work, and the beach is across the street. If we put on 100 miles a month, that would be alot.... lol

I have one Amp and I love it! It's a 2000 SE and it rocks. It's a v6 5 speed 4wd and kicks ass in the snow (not your terrain) with some chunky BF Goodrich All Terrains... Don't listen to those guys talking shit on this truck... for the price (a HELLUVA lot less than a 4 Runner or Pathfinder) it the best 4wd mid sized SUV on the road and it blows doors on those chumps too. I can beat most cars off the line (they might not realize they're racing though...)
I HIGHLY recommmend one, and I'm a designer... |

AND you can STAND on the roof rack - makes it real easy to load... you can't climb those other wimpy racks... also, since it's so fat it's easy to strap stuff to it... I even made my own bike rack... and for Burning Man I packed at least 200 llbs of crap on the roof no problem...
|
word jonasty.... she's kinda sold herself on this truck already cuz one of the girls that works for her just got one, and she loves it.... so, this is good news... :thumbsup
|
yeah, a lot of folks who get in mine say the same thing... I don't know if I'd buy a new one if I were you unless you get a great interest rate. I haven't had any mechanical problems with the car and they have gotten pretty cheap for the older ones. Bad for resale but good for buying...I'm gonna run mine into the ground - so I don't care how much it's worth at the lot.
|
My GF has one, and I have had an opportunity to borrow it several times. I recommend it, but make sure you look at the options for the larger engine because my only gripe was that it was slightly underpowered, even with the V6. The rest of it is nice. The stadium seating in the back is great for passengers, and the controls for the stereo, ac, and windows are all well placed. If you smoke make sure you get an ashtray - hers did not come with one, and I could never figure that out.
|
I rented one last year on a trip..and i also thought it felt cheap.I just finished the hunt and purchase of an SUV just a few weeks ago..and after looking at and driving quite a few..i ended up with the ML350.. second on my list was the new lincoln aviator..and 3rd was the mitsibishi montero..
|
i have Xcema, Xhaustion, Xpenses, Xcretion of the Xterior and i know a few Xpletives
but i don't know Xtensively about the Xterra :( |
AMP, i want a GFY trading card made... where do i send the pic of my ugly mug..?

Most Xterra's are NOT 4wd... Line it up with it's competitors, like the kia, the crv, and the escape. Xterra is on a truck frame, not a unibody like the others are. Xterra has a shiftable transfer case offering High and Low 4wd. Most sport utes of the same size don't even offer a V6 engine. The Xterra is a true SUV, not a pretty little "car" for timid women to drive back and forth to the mall. The toy SUV's can't come close to the Xterra, and as far as a 2000 selling for 10k...they have to be very well used to fall to that value. |
I drove one a couple times...sucked!
I thought it was going to fall apart. Line em up: :BangBang: |
fuck yea MuleScrot! tell 'em. pansy ass fake 4wd mishapen miniwagons.
and as far as them falling apart - i drive the crap outta mine and it's fucking solid... i did drive the XE v4 2wd automatic version once though and it wasn't even the same vehicle as the SE |

Ive got the 2000 and i fucking love it...living in the northwest ive put it through some "real world" outdoor driving as well and its a blast.
no problems at all w/the car yet either....been solid as a rock, well i smashed the right tail light once but that was user error :) Highly recommended but take it for a test drive and see for yourself... good luck! |
My folks just bought a Chevy Tahoe, which is nice. 4 doors, lots of room, leather, V8, 4 wheel drive, etc.
I've been in Explorers and S10 Blazers and they are nice too, but if you plan to stick people in the back seat you might want to get a full size. (Although if you can get by with a Mustang back seat then a mid size SUV will be more than enough.) I'm a pickup man myself, but if I wanted an SUV I would get one of those. I think the GMC version is called a Yukon these days. Very nice. |

Amp,
X5 4.6 will rock your world! |
i was in my teachers xterra the other day and i couldnt believe how cheap and shitty the interior is... id say an isuzu rodeo would be good if it werent for the lack of dealerships around and the fact that the dealers suck... how about a subaru wrx wagon... its not an suv but its nice and quick and can haul alot of cargo
|
Look at the LandRover Discovery then buy something else.
|
we'll probly go with the Xterra.... :winkwink:

As far as the interior....if you want all that plush and pretty shit, you'd have to step up to the Pathfinder. The Xterra is all about functionality. So if "cheap and shitty" means you're afraid that you might break a nail, well, go buy that Isuzu beotch!! |
Go with a Grand Cherokee. Or any Jeep, for that matter. IMHO, much better than an Xterra in that range of SUV. :thumbsup

I know you either hate Chevy's or the designs, but I love my Avalanche. I was very hesitant when we first bought it, but it's turned out to be the perfect vehicle! I carry my drum kits around daily so I know whats it's like to need a vehicle that will lug it all!
|
Got one in the family... runs like a fucking champ, but it's brand new...
get dat shit |
I just bought my wife a Volvo XC Wagon... they are pretty slick cars actually, lots of room, surfboard no problem, decent power and handling, and one of the best sounding stock stereos in the world.
I think they are around $30k if you get the right deal |
