Got some new pics of old MMA fight

In another thread, we got on the topic of me getting my ass kicked in the Heavyweight championship match a while back.

Although the fight was a year and a half ago, some of the photographers are still delivering pics .. gotta love slowness, LOL. I figured I'd share, for some laughs. Here are some of the ones I've gotten:

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/1.jpg
Listening to the ref tell us not to punch each other in the balls too much.

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/2.jpg
The last point in the fight that everything was going ok. Also known as "the beginning".

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/3.jpg
Trying to decide whether to fake an injury or shit myself.

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/5.jpg
It looks like gay sex, but unfortunately, it wasn't.

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/6.jpg
One of my training partners, explaining to me how nice it'll be to not have the ability to walk anymore.

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/4.jpg
Kicking him in the stomach instead of the leg.

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/7.jpg
Before the fight, with one of my training partners.

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/mma/hwc/8.jpg
Before the fight, with my Dad, who said "You're going to get your ass kicked."

Just relaxing in the hospital, trying to remember who I am.

You must be pretty tough just to have been there :thumbsup

georgeyw 01-08-2013 04:41 PM

Have you had a fight since?

Your oldman looks he has big mitts on him - perhaps he should be fighting..

I haven't fought for any belts, no -- I've just been fighting smaller-end fights because I enjoy it. Unfortunately, nothing big enough to be on TV or have DVDs like the championship match. I did have a good rough spar last month with Corey Hill from the UFC, though. He's a damn beast, and I'd love to have another go at him.

Dad can definitely throw a punch. He rocks me every time he hits me. He's done his share (and my share, and your share) of brawling in his day.

You've got closer to your dream than I got to mine, I wanted to play Soccer/Football at a high level in the UK, instead I took an academic route.

Without a doubt, it is. No one can help you once the cage door closes. I love the look on someone's face when they realize you're about to keep hitting them because they can't do much to stop you.

Somewhat. I think I lost the ability to code, though. Shhh, don't tell my clients.

adultchatpay 01-08-2013 06:39 PM

Did you fight after that?

xNetworx 01-08-2013 06:47 PM

Was that the time at the county fair when you were drunk and accidentally stumbled into to the tough man MMA fighting tent instead of the wing eating contest tent?

What do you do for training? Outside of actual fighting - I only ask because both of you do not look like you are in great shape (no offence meant).

"Old school" Heavyweight fights, eh? The newer-school Heavyweights, like Cain Velazquez, aren't fat -- they're fit.

He's definitely a big dude. Never seen him not get is way, lol.

For that fight, since I was rising in weight class by 50-60 lbs, I had to just eat, eat, eat for months and do almost no training so I wouldn't lose any weight. It was really hard for me to get all the way up to Heavyweight (I usually fight at 185). The promotion wanted me to be at least 235, since my opponent was 260. I think I made it to 230 or so. LOTS of buffets and McDonalds.

I regret nothing. :1orglaugh

xNetworx 01-10-2013 12:50 PM

Why the do you have a nutrition blog? I've never seen a fighting enter a ring looking that flabby and weak. Disgrace to MMA honestly man. I know you think it took a lot balls to step in there to get your ass kicked but in all reality, it was a foolish decision that could have cost you your life.

Shocking, that adding 50-60 lbs for a fight two weight classes above your normal class can make you look "flabby" and "weak"! With an understanding of human physiology that deep, YOU should have a guest spot on my nutrition blog! Get in tough for your username/password combination, and I'll get you all set up and rolling.

er, tough = touch, of course. I was imagining how tough your webmaster body was, and my fingers slipped.

Why would you add 50-60 lbs of mostly fat so you could get your ass kicked (to the point of nearly being put in a coma) at the county fair in front of a few dozen people? How is that a good move on any level? Enlighten me.

wehateporn 01-10-2013 05:25 PM

From certain angles you remind me of Leon from Blade Runner. Are you a replicant and if so what's your lifespan?

quick conversion for metric people like me

185lb = 84kg
230lb = 104kg
260lb = 118kg (he was a big fucking guy - jesus!)

Well that explains that then.

Why did you want to move up two weight classes? Sounds like a suicide mission to me.

The guys in that classs would train hard and be that weight - ie loads more muscle mass than you would have had at the time. Kind of crazy, would be interested in seeing how you fought at your 185 weight class.

You'd expect that. I stood up after that, though, and then he hit me from behind as I was standing up. The ref stopped it before he could actually knock me out, luckily.

Well, I was having success at 185, and they offered me the chance to fight for the championship belt at Heavyweight. Because of the guy's reputation as a killer, no one else was willing to fight him, and that was making for boring events. I told them I'd take the fight with the guy, but the belt had to be on the line, so I'd get something for my troubles. That, and I'd never fought in front of such a large crowd before, so I wanted to see if that made me more nervous, or more pumped up. Incidentally, it didn't change much .. I kind of blocked the crowd out.

I follow some fighting sports and most fighters are trying to fit in the lower weight class, definitely not 2 classes over. Strange, although I have no idea about this cage sport, maybe there is explanation for that...

edit:

I read your explanation, still strange - you should have known you have no chances because:
a) you are normally 2 classes lower
b) that guy is "a killer" in his class (which is 2 classes higher than you)

also curious - when you you feel stronger - in your own class or when you got those extra pounds? Meaning do you think you would have better chances of beating that guy if you were in your own "normal" weight? I mean you would feel faster, more fit etc.

Well I say good on you for having a go, I compete in an individual sport and I know first hand that putting yourself up in front of a crowd no matter the size, is not easy at all. So well done :thumbsup

What is your actual fighting training? Also how often?
