mkv player for windows7
 

Can anyone recommend a good free mkv player for windows 7 ?

The ones i have checked all either crash at random or are filled with ads or scam ware.

GOM Player plays MKV with ease.

VLC is the best by far !

Media Player Classic

Plays HUGE sized 3D 1080p mkvs that VLC can't handle (on my little htpc that is).

Same here MPC is eating on speed everyone else!

nothing beats vlc

Ive never had vlc not play an mkv. but then again I rarely interact with that file type.

What he said. I only use VLC for MKV files works great!

I just install haali media splitter then use regular old windows media player or media center to play them.

I prefer the MPC

I prefer MPC because it's a lot cleaner interface. Also, frameless / minimal playback is FTW.

VLC plays everything, even partial and corrupted files sometimes.

MPC is the best player in the history of earth
Set the little checkbox for "process priority above normal". It loves that.

It even has a built in audio booster which is extremely good news if you're using a laptop.

+1 for VLC, no need to install bloated codec packs when you have this all in one wonder.
