Dropbox 48GB bonus?
So I figured I'd start using Dropbox instead of Google Drive and get the 18GB expansion via fiverr.com
Installed Dropbox, set up my account and went to the "Getting Started" page. Earn a bonus 250mb for completing 5 of the 7 "quests". So I thought WTF, sure why not even though I'm getting the 16gb boost... next thing you know it said "1 more step to earn 48GB bonus". Voila! 50GB free account. :pimp Is this a random thing? Just tried the exact same steps for the wife and she only earned the 250mb bonus. |

No matter how much space Dropbox tells you have, it always turns out you don't actually have that space when you really need to use it.
|
Curious - why do people need so much space at dropbox?
|
I get 200GB from Google Drive for $9 per year... the price of a movie ticket.
|
The more friends you add the more space they allow you.
|
Enjoy it while it lasts. The game right now is to get you to use it. Store so much stuff, it makes it impossible to leave. Then bill you.
Ultimately, just like Facebook, something has to change to keep providing you a service for no cost. Servers, bandwidth, labor, insurance, developers, all costs money. They can't pay for it in virtual high fives. Only the sheeple think that the web is a free goldmine that they are not ultimately paying for in some way, some how. Whether it's through ads, privacy, data mining or alike. Once this business model has to make changes, and treated like a business... people will get outraged when they find out they have to actually PAY for what they are using. Oh, and of course my personal favorite... threaten mass exodus. The reality is, an service must be paid for some way, some how, some where. Nothing is truly 'free'. To think so is fodder. :2 cents: |
That's 2,500 X My first HD.
It cost a fortune and I remember thinking that I could never fill it up - God I am so old... Also my current HD is 50,000 X bigger than the first one, with a spare one for video so I don't fill it up. I could fill up my first HD in ~ 2 seconds with my current broadband. Crazy shit.... |
Footsie is completely right. It always amazes me how many calories people burn being cheap.
There are two mindsets, saving money mode and making money mode, and it's hard to do both. Hard work and a plan take most of the chance out of life, and the lottery is played by people that don't understand math. Quote:

i got a 18gb free account, how can i get the 50gb :p

Google Drive is still the way to go. The prices are dirt cheap and you don't have to worry about Google going out of business.
|
I've had all kinds of problems with google drive. It is slow, it doesn't always sync properly and there are times when it screws up files. If I try to upload photos to my websites, they do not load (broken image), but open fine on my computer.

That still around? Cant find it.

If you want to be able to sleep at night, pay for it. If you are just storing a bunch of shit for free, or for pennies, you do not give a shit about.... feel free to use one of these free services. However, keep in mind you will eventually they are going to charge you for it, or you are going to pay for it with your privacy or some other trade off. Just like those programs that were paying out $50/75/150.00 PPS on a $19.95 membership that no one questioned for a long time.... eventually the house of cards fell. Whether it was card banging, pre-checked cross sales, upsells, whatever. There is always a "cost" associated with these sorts of things. A business is a business with the end goal to be making money. At some point, the music stops. :2 cents: |
I know their game, and I don't plan on backing up anything I can't live without. I'll take the 48GB bonus and sleep just fine.
$5 on fiverr.com gets you the 18GB "maximum" when all else fails. I doubt I'll be storing anywhere near that within the next 24 months, hell, I'll be lucky if I actually hit the 2GB original space. And like I said, anything stored won't be anything I can't live without. :winkwink: |

pay for it instead of: do not pay for it now, but know that you will have to pay in the future I do not see why second option is so bad. Its even better - you will pay like with the first option, just you will start pay later (and save some cash by not paying for now) |
Everyone here has a server so why you dont set up ownclowd on it ill never know :2cents

I just did the 5 out of 7 "quests" to get the extra 250mb. On the second last "quest" (after I installed it on my S3) it suddenly said I'd get 48GB bonus. Tried the exact same process on my wife's computers and only got the 250mb bonus. |
I also got 48GB activating it from my SGSIII (valid for 2 years)
and I have 20gb in free space (regular)... |

I am saying, if whatever it is you are storing is THAT important to you, then you are better off paying for some level of support and service versus expecting the world for free. If your shit disappears tomorrow, you were never paying for any level of support and service. So you can get a "tough luck chief". Where as, you paying for some level of service should help you sleep at night. If you're storing shit you do not care about, free is fine. If you actually expect some level of support and service, then you're better off paying for such. Common sense. :2 cents: |
