The Original Star Trek

I got Season One of the original Star Trek and I've been watching it... Great stuff!

I just saw the first tablet, where a guy in sick bay was reading a book off of a large monitor - where the book was clearly scanned in!

Good stuff.

Every episode of every Star Trek series ever made is on Netflix. Including the animated series.

Mr Pheer 12-31-2012 01:04 AM

I wasnt aware that there was an animated series... will have to check that out :)

fitzmulti 12-31-2012 01:57 AM

I have all of the versions on DVD...I am literally watching "ENTERPRISE" right now.
;-)

Seriously?Tos is like space porn :1orglaugh

adult-help 12-31-2012 04:23 AM

tos and stng are great..

rogueteens 12-31-2012 04:56 AM

when it first came out, i thought that the next generation was much better than the original but after re-watching it recently, i've changed my mind, the original really stands the test of time and the next gen has dated really, really badly.

John-ACWM 12-31-2012 08:49 AM

Watch it with pleasure every time I come across it on TV.

I like DS9 the best but thats like comparing a great Italian meal to a great French meal... both are incredibly good :winkwink:

MaDalton 12-31-2012 09:28 AM

i grew up with that - and still watch the reruns

but from todays perspective the acting and props really look hilarious

Awesome. Love the shacting. :1orglaugh

Bill Shatner was apparently a real prick. The rest of the cast wanted to have a hammer party more than once.

DTK 12-31-2012 02:37 PM

I still love TOS the best!

Tom_PM 01-01-2013 08:57 AM

It's on TV at 9pm every Saturday on "MeTV" which is broadcast in my area. Don't know if it's on cable or sat.. It comes on after Lost in Space. Saturday is flashback night, haha.

A lot of tech gadgets we have today came from the brain of Gene Roddenberry.

SilentKnight 01-01-2013 09:34 AM

I still have all the TOS episodes on VHS (except for one). Haven't watched them in years, though.

The gadgets were so far ahead of their time. The styling of the communicators is basically what we have now as flip cellphones. They had flat-screen computer monitors. The disc they used in the computer console resembled 3 1/2" floppy discs.

Extremely cool, fan-made documentary of all the Enterprise ships throughout the ST history.

I have most of the episodes... on .. beta tapes. PBS (in the 80's) would play the original series in it's originally aired format, not the syndicated versions with extra commercial cuts, and I taped those.

Question is - do you still have a beta machine that'll play them?

The syndicated versions I taped back in the 80s were from various TV channels - usually I tried to pick the station that had the best quality signal at the time...sometimes re-recording when I saw a better broadcast. But I was fairly diligent at editing out the majority of the commercials...took a lot of time and effort back in the day.

Nope, lmao. I haven't had a beta machine SINCE the 80's.. Those tapes have been in a cardboard box for a long time now. Maybe someday I'll try to pick up a machine to see if they work.

The version they show on MeTV is not bad. They are the ones that have some enhanced CGI but seem to have most of the often chopped off scenes. They even show the full ending credits in full screen without talking over it or squishing it.

Sounds like the 40th anniversary re-mastered versions. They did a not-bad job with the enhanced CGI. I've seen 3-4 episodes so far.

Started NG before the Holidays. Didn't even got up to go visit my family during Xmas.

Either there something wrong with me or my family, or the serie is just that awesome.

CDSmith 01-02-2013 11:16 AM

For me the original series is and will always be #1.

Maybe because I was in front of the TV back when they were new first-run episodes.
