remote workstation hosting

Looking for a Hosting Company preferable that has their Data Center In America that will allow me to host my own workstation on their network for me to remotely access, either a system I already have or one that can be created by the host with my specs needed.

hit me up

I'm not sure I understand what you are looking for. We are housed in a carrier-neutral facility in Scranton Pennsylvania, the network is connected via 10-Gigabit Ethernet Wavelength handoff(s) on redundant/dual-path DWDM fiber-optic transport connections to XO Communications, HE and Zayo Bandwidth, Verizon and Frontier Communications.

Spare hardware is available on-site as well as several Windows Server licenses. What kind of setup did you have in mind? Please hit me up on ICQ, live chat or send me an email and I will give you the best deal I can.

Wouldn't any Windows server or VPS suit your needs assuming you have admin RDP access?

Let me add to this:) I am often in other parts of the world and have slower internet access. I used Citrix gotomypc to access a high powered laptop at my friends place to take advantage or North Americand Download speeds and do work from there. It works quite well , however my friend is not a 24 hour support centre and from time to time I need a reboot or perhaps a software install that I can't do on my own for remote reasons. He has to work, go on vacation and such which means I got to wait.

1. I am hoping to find a host that I can colocate a high end laptop, use their internet access and work from that machine from time to time. Laptop is better for me as this is more of a workstation and not a server.. I prefer to run it off the laptop.

2. I am open to installing Windows 7 Pro on a server, but have learned from experience that servers are built to be used as servers and desktops are built to be run on desktops So you dont always have the flexibility for things such as Video Cards for instance. However I am flexible on this if need be.

I prefer the laptop and it would not have to be open, it would just sit there closed and from time to time I would need a reboot, a software install, basic stuff.. I have had my present laptop at my buddy place and only have bugged him maybe 10 times all year, but like i said rather have a new laptop at a hosting centre for the support and the good download and upload speeds

As for RDP it doenst cut it for a working remote program, its too slow. I have tried them all from RDP to Pcanywhere , vnc, and a handful of others. gotomypc from citrix works very well, encrypted nicely , good support adn gives me the features i need, though it isnt free like some of the options out there

Something to think about is that with a laptop all changes and even power cycling or reboots require your machine to be touched. Unlike a desktop or server you can't just power cycle the box from anywhere should it lock up. With your situation someone will have to physically touch the box. This could either cost you remote hands time/money or limit you to parts of the day that staff is in house and you could call in a favor or two. If you configure your laptop correctly to say running with the lid closed it takes up no more space then a 1U server so price wise this shouldn't be a problem.

I would shoot some emails to different colo providers and just ask them outright.

Good Luck

Anthony
