Without a doubt. They can't ever get anything done.

I think they will strike a temporary deal to avert the cliff then argue about it more in a few months. I don't think either party is too interested in coming up with an actual long term plan.

We will go over the cliff. The Bush cuts expire. House and Obama agree on a tax cut on the new rate that will bring taxes back to the level that were. Income limit will be between 400k and 1 million dollars. Other parts of the deal will be limiting some tax breaks. Extending the age to 70 to collect Social Security. Limits on Medicare.

This will give both sides the right to declare victory

Avg. lifespan is around 72, and no SS til 70? Kind of a gloomy thought.

not quite. they will agree to another panel to make recommendations on changes to social security and medicare.

So.. Social Security was supposed to be a safety net, Just in Case, Not a retirement plan.

The fiscal cliff is not so bad. We have to do something so lets do this.

For the "record", I think there will be absolutely no changes to SS or medicare. Bush tax cuts will FINALLY be allowed to expire as Bush intended (or was it a lie).

It's our money that we paid into it. It's not welfare. The only reason it's even broken is because the Govt keeps using it as their personal bank account. This more than anything should piss everyone off.

but only cause i didnt like the "we are doomed" part of voting for no deal done..
i think it might actually be good for the country to go over the cliff.
spending will be cut and taxes will go up, there you have it - really what we need to get out of the debt crisis.

House to resume budget talks on Sunday @ 6:30pm.

They had months to resolve this and prove to the world that our system wasn't broken. We deserve better.

on the radio this morning they were discussing the global impact of the cliff and how other nations perceive the financial threat.
one thing they said was the world was looking to the US for leadership, and this "non solution" was not sending a good message.
i could not help lolling over the leadership comment, its been a long time ago since the world looked at US for leadership.
