Gerry Anderson Dies Peacefully in his Sleep... R.I.P.
Before Star Wars, before Star Trek, there was Gerry Anderson, may he rest in Peace...
You might know him as creator of Thunderbirds, but there were many other shows, better and bigger... Despite the child-oriented aspect of the early stuff, his science fiction ideas and concepts were innovative, and affected everything that came after. My favorite was Captain Scarlett, with Joe 90 coming a close second, and finally his classic live-action stuff was truly groovy, culminating with Space 1999. But first came "UFO", with those hot purple-hair comptroller chicks... http://www.sylviaanderson.org.uk/ass..._Mysterons.jpg http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9...0waao1_400.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ear1_Title.jpg Truly, R.I.P., R.I.P. ... / |

sad day. I once parked in his space at Pinewood Studios to take a pic through the windscreen as a nostalgia thing. He was filming Thunderbird the movie next door and nicely came into my studio to have a look at what I was doing and also gave us some great pointers. We were also blatently riding his original thunderbirds idea which he loved. He then gave me a tour of HIS studio as well , which was the deck of thunderbird 5 which was excellent. Then we had lunch in the pinewood cafe and had sausages and chips. LOL.
Was a pure afternoon of just straight up geekdom, puppetry and models and colgate toothpaste tube lids :) |
Used to watch his shows as a kid. Great stuff. R.I.P.

One of my friends on Facebook described him as the British Walt Disney. I don't think that was all that much of an overstatement.
