What's ridiculous is right wingers screaming anyone is un-american by mentioning any type of gun control and calling mental help for everyone that needs it socialism.

If it was always the parent's fault, then there would be no more public school because this would be happening every day.

It is not always the parents fault but this time it certainly is looking that way in the preliminary reporting that I have seen.

Maybe, but 99 out of 100 kids with shitty parents won't do something like this. I think there has to be that extra bit of something inside the killer already, and the parent was the thing that got them on the path.

Some interesting shit on Rachel Maddow. She's interviewing a guy that wrote a Columbine book, and deals with these types of shootings. He said in most cases, it's someone who is very depressed. Sometimes it's a mentally ill person, or just a complete psychopath who can't have empathy for other people. But most of the time its a depressed person.

Anyway, he was saying the schools need programs that try to identify horribly depressed students, because kids want to tell someone they're in that state -- but not their parents. So the pot boils over and this happens.

Sounds completely workable - if parents raise a kid with problems, throw the parents in jail.

That way, when drugs are legalized so the government can get the tax revenue, the government has a new way to make money for the prison-industrial complex, and political 'street rep' for themselves.

I can think of all kinds of things we can jail parents for.

I think you have a politically doable idea there. The republicans in particular will be totally down with it.

Think of all the cheap prison labor we can get from single mothers alone.

15 years ago I heard a professor on the tube talking about the backlash on white kids from the 'pro racial directions of the media' i.e. everything thing is 'whiteys fault...' the dude was saying that white kids are being heavily pressured and feel the weight of society's... well scorn... that the white kids are going to start popping from the presume ... and HEY!!! what the fuck right? the white kids are popping BIGTIME!
