w8/w9 question for non US webmasters who process over american companies
I just got a W8/W9 tax form request form my payment processor (2checkout its for my mainstream biz). Basically I have to fill it out or they will withhold 28% of everything.
Just wondering, since I do not even live in the USA I just use a USA payment processor, can they actually tax me? I will look this up with my accountant of course but I would be interested in hearing other peoples experience with this, I am surely not the only one to get this? Thanks for any info! |
No. they cannot.. Unless you are a US citizen working outside the country.

The W-8 is not so they can withhold taxes, they are just doing what is required by them. Fill out the form and don't worry about it.

I got this a few times its not for them to tax you its for there end like baddog said

Yes, they can. You should look up about getting an ITIN number from the IRS. It's specifically used when a company or individual does business inside the United States when they are a non-resident.

I love these yes/no/yes/no threads. I remember there was a time when 2CO forced us to put a line below our website stating 'Services are provided by us, but sold by 2CO'. We're not using them anymore.
