Only if you like completely absurd stories that make no sense whatsoever.

Dirty F 11-29-2012 06:05 PM

Sunshine is my favourite scifi.

As you might know there are more books, hopefully that means more films :thumbsup

brassmonkey 11-29-2012 06:08 PM

check out lockout was pretty good

candyflip 11-29-2012 06:08 PM

I wouldn't waste my time on Hunger Games. Watch Battle Royle instead. Much better take on a similar situation. BUT...not sci fi.

Looper was much better than I had expected. Total Recall wasn't bad.

The best way to get Sci-fi is reading anthologies, I have lost count on how many i have now. I enjoy Alternate histories, Alien wars, First contacts...everything really, even some Steampunk now and then.

Imortyl Pussycat 11-29-2012 06:21 PM

i have seen 3 different versions of The Time Machine, great classic.

Also : Time After Time, and if you like mush with your time travel, check out Somewhere in Time. And if you want to think about time travel until your head explodes, watch PRIMER. And if you want to laugh with your time travel, try "Frequently Asked Questions about Time Travel" or of course, Back to the Future.

Other great sci-fi : Contact.

i own Somewhere in Time and have watched it 100x, it's kind of a chick flick though so be warned if you haven't seen it lol

JohnnyPearl 11-29-2012 07:09 PM

Dune - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087182/

bronco67 11-29-2012 07:23 PM

Hunger Games was the best example of lazy, crap filmmaking I've seen in a long time.

If you want to see a good sci-fi, watch Sunshine.

It's not new, but Moon was pretty good. Probably the last sci fi movie I enjoyed.

I admit it - I have watched it 100 times too. I don't know why I like it so much. The part where Christopher Reeve discovers the coin in his pocket - Holy Fuck - I never saw it coming - totally surprising, heart wrenching too. I was like "Noooooooooo!!!!!!"

You can also watch "Event Horizon" and Pandorum. Both sci-fi horrors.. nowhere near sunshine but ok, better than nothing..

NaughtyNerdy 12-01-2012 06:20 AM

How new are we talking?
Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance
Source Code
Your Highness (fantasy but pretty funny)
Meloncholia

nico-t 12-01-2012 06:24 AM

I never saw 'inception' and my friend kept saying I have to see it because it's such a good movie, "but you have to keep watching to understand the rather complex story."

So i was very interested because i like those kind of movies. I think Memento is brilliant, and this was of the same director... Well I watched it a couple of weeks ago and my high expectations were not met at all. I don't care if a movie isn't complex, but don't claim a movie is complex when it's in fact the opposite. The dream in dream thing was extremely linear and easy to follow, so I'm not sure how anyone cannot understand that part.
If the storyline was good, I would've enjoyed it more, but the storyline was also extremely simplistic. Incomparable with Memento in my opinion, that was really well made, with twists you just didn't see coming at all. Conclusion, for me inception was a big disappointment.

I just watched a brain-burner last night called Beyond the Black Rainbow. Granted, I was high when I watched it, so that might have made it easier for me to tune into this movie's weirdness -- but I loved this flick.

It's probably going to be too slow for some people, but if you want to see something like 70's Kubrick/Argento, then you should check this one out. It really demands your full surrender, and you're going to either love it or hate it.

Were you loving that guy's performance as much as I did? A couple of those scenes he reminded me of Christian Bale in American Psycho.

Primer is one of those movies that you enjoy without fully understanding. You just kind of know what happened, and it still makes sense.
