HELP!!!!!! Win-Media-9 REMOVAL!!!
Does anyone know how to get rid of this fucked up new Windows Media product? We downloaded it thinking it was the thing to do, but it's just a piece of shit. Does anyone have a link to Windows Media 8? We couldn't find a link to V.8 ANYWHERE on the MS site, they don't even mention it.
Nor do they mention how fucked up V.9 is. I've been pulling my hair out over here as what I should do. I swear I'm on the brink of "format C:" just get the default player that comes with Win2Kpro. Can anyone help? |
Hate to say this but system restore is the only way I figured out how to remove that crap.
Even if you do install version 8, it will stay as version 9 no matter where you install it or whatever. |
I've never done a system restore. Is that the same as reinstalling the OS?
|
Oh shit your not on XP are you?
if you are its in start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore. |
Windows 2000 pro.
|
Crap, not sure about 2000. You could try to remove it using add/remove. Then I am pretty sure I have a copy of the version 8 install if that works.

|
EVerytime you install something important (or not) it's a good idea to create a restore point with XP, BEFORE you install or upgrade or whatever :)
So you know next time. |
I think XP blows..

According to one of my members this patch fixes some problem(s) WMP9 may be causing you so its worth giving it a try to fix your new shitty WM9 since its near impossible to revert back to a older version of WMP... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...51/default.asp
good luck |
I used System Restore to get rid of it a few months ago and it worked fine.

Well it was fine for us, but we soon found out that they weren't playing for anyone not using Version 9. So we tried to go back to version 8. (Insert mountains of headaches, and a death threat) After dealing with one of the big editing machines today we noticed that not one.. but 3 machines were fucked up. They all had Windows Media version 9. So we quickly went to the microsoft site to get Windows Media 8 and sure enough there is NOT a single link to WM8 nor do they even mention that a version 8 ever existed. It's just not there AT ALL!! So we called Sonic Foundry and that guy told us tht WM8 is installed when you load up Vegas Video 3.0. The next thing we did was dump the Windows Media 9 and then dumped Vegas Video. Ok, all is well. Aahhh, time for a Carona. Ok, all I need to do now is install Vegas Video 3.0 again. Success. ok, now to render a test clip... WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!!? WINDOWS MEDIA 9 IS STILL THERE!!! It's like Freddy or Jason from those horror films. This fucker just won't die. Next step... check all known files and folders for Windows Media 9 or any version for that matter, and kill it. We even deleted everything out of the registry (mistake # 133 of our day) Ok, so finally every last trace was gone. Now we open Vegas Video again, and try to render. Ok, NOW WHAT THE FUCK AGAIN!! There is no Windows Media codecs. No problem, we'll just go back to Microsoft and get them again. No luck. No matter what we installed, no matter how many different versions of WM9 we installed Vegas Video just wouldn't see it. No matter how many times we reinstalled Vegas Video... it wouldn't see Windows media. Our last resort (which should have been our first) save what you got, and dump the OS and start over. We did. One down... 2 (possibly 3) more to go. THANKS MICROSOFT!! :321GFY |
According to MS support, you cannot get rid of WM 9 unless doing a clean install or a system restore (obviously with a backup prior to the installation)...from what I've heard just installing windows overtop of a previous installation won't revert you to an earlier version of WMP.
|
FUCK YEAH!! We found one folder and tried to delete it, and no shit, it came back!!
We would delete it, and 3 seconds later it would re-appear. FUCK MS!! |
I have 9 installed and I was sending a friend E-mails using my web cam and in wmv format and he said he could not view them so I told him to install 9 and he could view them (not realizing that he has an old computer and it is not powerful enough to support 9) so I told him to do an uninstall, he did and according to him the uninstall asked him if he wanted to revert back to his original media player he said yes and was reverted back to his original media player. When I installed 9 I do not remember if it asked if you wanted to back up your files, but from what he said it sounds like it did with him.
I have embedded wmv's encoded with Windows Media Encoder and if I understand what some of you are saying some of my surfers will have to have 9 installed to view the wmv's?? |
We had a problem with members not being able to stream wmv's.
I am not sure if it was just XP users. We posted the fix on the site, which *seems* to have fixed the problem. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie...ritical/813951/  |
