gothweb 02-17-2003 06:30 PM

The question is, which one?

Mr.Fiction 02-17-2003 06:32 PM

Get ready to lose a lot of recurring charges.

They will probably be cancelling a lot of cards and re-issuing them.

Theo 02-17-2003 06:36 PM

damn, this is disturbing

2.2 million credit cards

so far:

Citizens Bank, a financial institution serving the Northeast, shut down the accounts of 8,800 customers whose card numbers had been accessed after being notified by MasterCard on Friday, bank spokeswoman Pamela Crawley said. All of those accounts were safe, she said.

It' only 1/3 of a percent that was affected.

So if you have 10,000 recurring members you'll lose about 33, if they cancel all the cards that were breached. Hardly anything to cry over. :waaaaahh

psyko514 02-17-2003 06:58 PM

Don't jump the gun.

Who said they were a major credit card processor?

And who said they process high-risk/adult?

Kimmykim 02-17-2003 07:01 PM

chicken little chicken little!!!!

First off this article did NOT say third party processor. Second thing, it didn't say porn, adult, smut or anything that you KNOW they'd have wanted to play up if it were.

Y'all go on back to your business.

playa 02-17-2003 07:05 PM

i can't wait for the first batch
of 2.2 million opt-in email list to be sold

cluck 02-17-2003 07:12 PM

Wow, I would have creamed my pants had I done that when I was in high school. I had to resort to 10 user shopping carts and e-mails that said "Warning: Your AOL account is about to be deactivated". Lucky I learned that it's easier to make money in porn than in scamming :glugglug

The main concern with this is that even though it was 0.3% of card holders, it was still 2.2 million online shoppers.

That changes if they are an adult third party processor. What percentage of cards do you think are used for online porn? Not many.

This is the problem the encryption is all in transit but once it arrives to the database pretty much is there for anyone who knows how to get it

They are referring to the 2 million cards that could be cancelled and reissued. If someone on those cards subscribed to your site they would have to sign back up.
