F1 is not the same as 10 years ago when I watched every race. Now its been 5 years when I watches no races.

I don't usually watch, but saw on the text update whilst working it was looking good, so sat down to watch the last 30 laps.. mad race. Shame they all can't be like that.

Same.. F1 needs to get away from the traction control and all the various drive aids and dumb the cars down if need be to get it back to racing and not tactical pit stops. I can't remember the last F1 race I watched and I used to watch them religiously.

rowan 11-25-2012 02:29 PM

Damnit! Race was a few hours later than normal (2:30am local time) so I missed it in the guide.

I went off F1 for a while, but I'm now trying to watch every race. It's getting interesting again.

fitzmulti 11-25-2012 02:35 PM

That certainly was one of the more fun F1 races to watch, in recent memory...not a "snooze-fest", that's for sure!
Vettel is pretty amazing...

Si 11-25-2012 03:01 PM

Fuck Vettel.

I want refuelling back next year.

nico-t 11-25-2012 03:04 PM

hm. f1 puts me to sleep, boring as hell.

Scott McD 11-25-2012 03:07 PM

Crazy, crazy race today. I thought it was gonna go Alonso's way when Vettel took that hit and spin on lap 1. He did well to get back through the field and do just enough to take the world championship once again.

Sad to see Schumacher retire (again) but glad he had a good race today and picked up some final points.

I've always followed Schumacher in F1, so no idea who i'll be cheering on next season. I just hope it's another good year though because I did enjoy watching most races this year...

i followed Schumacher through all his career. never became a huge fan but could have if he would have been as relaxed he's now back then. it's the end of an era.

and it's tough to cheer for someone like Vettel who could technically almost be my son (agewise) :1orglaugh

but if he becomes 3 times champion in a row it's not just the car - he must be a pretty good driver too. and he's german. ;)

DTK 11-25-2012 03:16 PM

Congrats to Vettel, but I have to say Alonso did the best driving of his career this year. Coming within 3 points of the title in an inferior car...very impressive.

The Schumacher era was boring as hell, but you have to respect his greatness. He re-wrote the record book. I think if he hadn't been forced out at Ferrari (and then took a 3 yr break), he may well have added to his wins & championships records.

Paul Di Resta?

I'll be cheering on all the Brits, Both Mercedes teams, And enjoying some Raikonnen moments hopefully.

Hoping Vettel crashes, and that there is a new champion at the end of the next season. Fed up with Vettel, I was pleased for him (and red bull) when he won the first championship, but can't stand him now, he's turned into a whinging little cunt who hates it when things don't goes his way in my oppinion.

Alonso did indeed an excellent job this season - you can see that in comparison to Massa

livexxx 11-25-2012 03:27 PM

That look on Alonso's face at the end as he stood there staring blankly was priceless.

he was probably constantly praying Buttons car breaks down the last rounds - i would have been frustrated like hell too

Ross 11-25-2012 03:35 PM

Probably the best race of 2012 but Vettel isn't a worth Champion. This kid is overrated and nowhere near as good as 3 World Championships suggest. He is maybe the 4th or 5th best driver in the current line-up.

Maybe I am biased I guess, but Vettel is just driving the best car from the best team that make the least mistakes. Lewis Hamilton is the best driver in F1, even all the other drivers rate him the best. I think he has made a terrible decision to go to Mercedes and in all honesty I don't see him winning another Championship unless he moves again but time will tell.

It is an elitist motorsport - never ever liked it.

Plus you cannot relate to the cars so it is like watching flies fuck.

Super tourer / real *looking* cars scraping and banging together in a close race is far more entertaining.

Very good race to watch due to all the variables of rain, no rain, tire changes, minor crashes, etc. I was up early and planted in front of my TV an hour before the start. Well worth it.

Adrian Newey is the key piece in the entire thing. As I stated earlier, Vettel is highly overrated. I hope Newey seeks a new challenge in the shape of Mercedes next season, him and Ross Brawn are pretty good buddies.

ahh, come on, a little more respect...

i am really not a huge fan but he was the youngest driver ever to win a point in F1 in a BMW Sauber and the youngest ever to win a F1 race in a Toro Rosso - both not designed by Newey and both at that time surely not top teams.

Toro Rosso has in total 1 pole and 1 win - guess who did that...

you dont become 3 time world champion in F1 when you're just a mediocre driver - no matter who builds your car

but driving from the back so many times, vettel really did some cool stuff, and better than webber who I rate with Button as being both over the hill.

Hamilton had plenty of bad luck, but his move will be based on MB pumping some huge money in, so my feeling is they will be right up there , they haven't been too far off, just not enough money so far. MB have a real world car range, SLS, SLR etc etc. so they are one of the few that will see real ROI on spend that filters down to even the sales rep cars

Awesome and moving film. If you're at all into F1 or motor racing, you have to see this film. Senna was an incredibly interesting dude.

Fun story if you're into F1:

I saw this on the big screen right after it came out. Actually, I had already seen the blu-ray version a few times before this night ;) The director, Asif Kapadia was on hand to intro the film, and humility aside, I talked him into staying for a Q & A. He was doing the promo tour and had only planned to stay through the intro to the film.

After he introduced the film, i went up to get some popcorn. I passed by him on the way and complimented him on the film. So I'm waiting in line, and he's talking to the theater manager right near me. After they're done, i chat him up a bit. next thing i know, he's trying to arrange to stay for Q & A after the film.

After i get my popcorn, we chat a little bit more.
He then says "you should get back in there".
I say "no worries, i've seen it a half-dozen times."
He asks "how have you seen it???"
I give him a look..
He shakes his head and says "the Internet!!"
I said "yep, but i'm still here eh?" :1orglaugh

And he is the most important part of that time by a long long way.

Vettel had the number of his vastly overrated team mate which was the biggest key for him but he will go down in history as three times champion none the less.

Schumacher was a beast.. Some of his best races were back when he was driving that Ford for Benton which only had a V8 and was the most under powered car out of any of the F1 teams and he still won races.

I think the race that cemented it for me was when he was driving the Ford and he started losing gears in the transmission. He ended up finishing 3rd and only had 3 gears left at the end of the race and he actually led for quite awhile when he first started having problems.

He even made a pit stop with the broken transmission. After that race I knew he was gonna be one of the all time greats.

Kenny B! 11-26-2012 08:31 AM

Vettel is deserving, and got lucky the weather turned in his favor but I was rooting for Alonso.

This season was much more action packed than previous years, I'm not much for watching races or most sports unless I'm at the event but there were some great races this year.

Sucks Hamilton got taken out, I hope Merc will have a great car for him next year.

John-ACWM 11-26-2012 10:52 AM

Congrats to him, it was a great race.

I said he was 4th or 5th best in F1, that's hardly mediocre lol. It's just my opinion of the kid, he is a good driver and works very hard as far as I believe, I just don't rate him as good as Hamilton or Alonso. The facts are the facts, he has had the outright best car in F1 for 3 years, that happens to coincide with Adrian Newey being at Red Bull. If you put Alonso or Hamilton in his car the past 3 seasons, they would have had the title wrapped up far earlier than Vettel did in each occassion.

we shall never know - for example this season Red Bull was stopped several times by a failing generator. this would have happened to any driver.

Also Hamilton and Alonso are a couple of years older and have more experience.

but i agree in one point - we will never know how good he really is until he goes to another team like Ferrari, Mercedes or McLaren and wins something with them as well.

And btw - when Schumacher went to Ferrari they were a mediocre team and it took them 4-5 years until Schumacher became World Champion. Alonso still has to prove that he can lead the team in that direction - because this year it was just him - not the car.

JUST LEAVE ME ALONE I KNOW WHAT I NEED TO DO.

I predict Lotus will improve and Kimi will win more races in 2013. He was the epitome of consistency in 2012. Lotus showed they can build a reliable car. If they can qualify better and get better spots on the starting grid I see Lotus and Kimi finishing higher than third on 2013.

I agree that Alonso still has some to prove at Ferrari but he won 2 world titles in a row with Renault, that's got to count for something.

I kinda would love to see Hamilton at Red Bull against Vettel, or for McLaren to have had much less issues this season. I believe Lewis had car trouble 4 times from winning positions in a grand prix. Pretty crazy! All I know is I'm looking forward to 2013 already, I just really hope Mercedes hook something up and Hamilton can challenge, otherwise I see me not watching much of the sport lol.
