Do you write reviews on Yelp? If so, why?

I can't believe how many people give Yelp free content. I can understand wanting to praise or discredit a place once in awhile but some users have 1000s of wordy reviews. Is it just a passion for writing?

Do you think that when people use Facebook it even crosses their mind that they are making someone else billions of dollars?

I write short reviews. Helps a good business succeed and a bad biz get better.

I try and work on mainstream profiles where I can get a url in.

I write reviews only if I'm pissed off at the place or absolutely love the place. Never if I'm in between.

How much do they pay for a review?:winkwink:

I think I've written a couple positives for small local places, they were great and I want them to stay in business so I can go there :)

Do you think that people who leave comments on blog realize they are making money for someone else?

I will if it's in-between because I relied on a bunch of reviews saying it's great.

I do find that I love the places people give bad ratings to. Like our local Mortons. You'd think it's McDonald's based on some of the reviews but have only had positive experiences.

Edit: that's because everybody likes Don Shula's place but the food is no different. The only difference is Shula's is a see and be seen kind of place but I don't go out to dinner for that.

I've noticed many major sites have recently (past 1-2 years) moved from showing comments at the bottom of articles, to having to click on something to view them. Javascript third party comment services like Disqus also disconnect the comments from the page when a web crawler visits. Are they really worth that much?

I write reviews for TripAdvisor now and again... especially if something annoys me.

CurrentlySober 11-25-2012 02:58 PM

I review everything I buy on Amazon.
