only about 1% of the nation actually knows what the heck they are doing in regards to diet and fitness. Its pretty sad actually.

CashGina 11-16-2012 08:31 AM

ha ha ha :)

BIGTYMER 11-16-2012 09:03 AM

I'm very big into juicing. One of the best choices I've ever made in my life. I juice daily.

We weren't designed to eat dead processed garbage.

Jucing is a super easy way to get great raw live food into your diet.

Good doc, it got 3 people here juicing and they look great! ;)

Jman 11-16-2012 10:43 AM

I was juicing a lot this summer but with the cold fall settling in I slacked... Gonna hit it back hard as of tomorrow and get back at being regular juicer/blender

it's probably even less than that.. even the op is trying to lose weight drinking juices.. :1orglaugh

doing one up every once in a while is fine, but if you are drinking these often you aren't going to lose much at all, BELIEVE ME i've tried it myself! There is just far too much sugar in just about any concoction. Most of the nutritional value in fruits and vegetables are in the fibre that juicers throw away so i wouldn't recommend that to anyone in any situation myself.

Do salads instead, switch up the vegetables and ingredients you use often to keep them from getting boring and it will help the variety in nutrients you get.

purescotty 11-16-2012 10:51 AM

^^^ I agree about the sugars. When I do them its Kale, Supreme Food (green powder vitamin / mineral whole food concentrate), ice, small amount of coconut water, almonds, and sometimes part of a Acai packet.

what do you think juicing is? its processing the food.. its a FOOD PROCESSOR with finer blades! Plus the whole raw foods fad is ridiculous and completely unfounded.. nothing wrong with cooking foods, with some things it actually enhances nutrients. Look up kale and broccoli..

Most of the nutrition is absorbed during the process of the body breaking the foods we eat down. When you pulverize it like that it throws that out the window and creates expensive piss and runny shits at best.. and if you add in fruit its just sugar water which will turn into fat unless you are running 20k a day or an avid x country skier then maybe you can keep it in balance...

That is why I prefer blending then juicing. Some do not like the texture of blended fruits and veggies but when you had coconut water and bit of cranberry juice it goes down well and you do not lose any of the good nutrients.

With that said I am wayyy to much of a hardcore epicurean to stick to salads and good stuff only :winkwink:

I watched the documentary about a year ago, and juiced for a couple months. I wasn't doing the hardcore 24/7 juice diet, like the guy in the movie. Instead I was replacing one meal with a big juice, one meal with a big smoothie, and had one healthy "real food" meal. Lost a lot of weight pretty quickly. But found that it was too inconvenient for a long term diet.

I've been having a lot of success with Weight Watchers. It allows me to eat everyday food. I can still go out for burgers or order pizza. It doesn't seem like a diet. It's more like a change in eating behavior. You learn how to control your portions and make healthier choices. And their online program works well. You no longer have to do the meetings. This is the first diet I feel like I can do for a long term.

Agreed, why not just eat it instead of Juicing it.

baddog 11-16-2012 12:12 PM

I have been juicing for a couple years now. I tried to get goodgirl to join me when she would visit, but she had no interest. About a year ago she watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead; the next morning she asked me to show her how to use the juicer and she became an instant convert. We juice daily, either lunch or dinner.

We have a juicing group on Facebook if anyone is interested in joining: http://www.facebook.com/groups/14302...ref=ts&fref=ts

I think I'm gonna dip my donuts in juice from now on.

whats better..blending vegtables or using some kind of dip to eat raw vegtables whole? i just can't eat them plain. for whatever reason cooked is fine but eating raw carrots or broccoli without any dip is hard.

There is no way in hell I could eat as many fruits and veggies as I drink daily. And juicing is better than blending because you don't have to wait for your body to break everything down to get the nutrients to you.

Since I started juicing two years ago I have lost 55+ lbs and I am never sick.

My diet was not terrible before, but I ate larger meals (when I did eat).

Example: Our favorite Mexican restaurant:

Start with chips and salsa while waiting for our queso fundido (appetizer).
We would both order an entree and would eat most if not all of it; might have a dessert and a margarita or two.

Now if we go there we will split an entree and have leftovers.

Bryan G 11-16-2012 02:32 PM

I'm open to try it. So you usually just juice once a day? Like in place of lunch or dinner?

Good juicers separate the juice/fiber and leave the enzymes intact. This has been tested. Go read up on the SAD diet. I hardly ever ate fruit and the only vegetable I knew was a French fry. I wouldn't eat kale but I'll drink it. Same goes with many other fruits and vegetables.

I havae Chrons disease. My body absorbs nutrients poorly. Juicing without a doubt makes it easier for my body to absorb and digest. And now it's getting tons of healthy foods that I never in a million years would of ate.

I feel great and I know it works. This isn't some new age bullshit.

BIGTYMER 11-16-2012 02:34 PM

And I'm not fat or on a diet. I add a glass of juice to my day for health only.

if its foamy like that, it needs more soluble fiber. Just a tip.

By the way, I like mine pulpy and thick where I almost have to chew it before swallowing.

I think it is the 50% that think they know it all and inform others of all the stupid ideas they think work because their mother has a friend in Idaho whos neighbor knows this dude that saw a tv program at 2am and his best friends wife tried it out and their dog lost 20 pounds! Holy shit man. Fact there is more then one way to lose weight and keep it off and I do not think there are any tricks if you want it done right. Stop feeding your ass

We mix it up, so not in a rut. Sometimes we juice for lunch, other times we will eat real food for lunch and juice for dinner.

Today's lunch

Ours was $500. The most important thing IMHO is wattage of the motor. Ours is 1200w. It provides more juice which means you get more from your produce. I have the Breville dual disk juice extractor.

Sounds like you are blending as opposed to juicing.

That is a lot of sugar; juicing like that might be tasty but it is not going to help you lose weight and will likely have the opposite effect.

The juice we just had included: dandelions, spinach, garlic, ginger, cilantro, kale, okra, celery, apple, orange, pear, strawberries, blackberries, cranberries, zucchini, cauliflower, asparagus

We try to get 50/50 fruits and veggies with as much color as possible.

I was referring to the amount of sugar actually. When it comes to a great tasting drink we like to juice 8-10 oranges of various types; so damned good. For an additional treat, we add a half a pineapple to the mix. Now that is tasty.

You must be blending if you are adding bananas. Do you include the peel?

We have several "blenders" in our juicing group that use banana peels and the rinds from their citrus products.
