Anyone into Green Smoothies?

I'm addicted to these and feel great after drinking them. Anyone want to share recipes?

JesseQuinn 11-15-2012 02:54 PM

beets, beet greens, kale, tomato, romaine lettuce, rapini, tomato and a bit of carrot. I'd rather eat fruit than drink the juice, so I always stick to vegetables alone (I know tomato is a fruit, it's the exception) :) I put in cayenne and jerk seasoning to spice it up a bit.

I don't enjoy it, but since I tend to live on black coffee and cigarettes I'm sure I'd be a shrivelled hag if I didn't drink it

i did it for a while with mixed results. I was eating garbage at the time so was an improvement for sure. Any time you are eating more vegetables and fruits is a good thing for boosting vitamins and fibre.. definitely not a weight loss thing, at least if you are only moderately overweight. Far too much sugars in most of them. but good for an energy boost for sure.

i just eat different kinds of salads instead now and very limited amounts of fruit.

i love to add spinach for the texture and taste and a pear over other fruits to give the right sweetness.

bronco67 11-15-2012 03:14 PM

I've been doing it for about 16 months, ever since I got my Ninja Blender, and I don't think I've missed more than 3 days without drinking a green smoothie.

I'd suggest using frozen bag vegetables. From what I've read, the nutrients are flash frozen and they keep that way from the grocery store freezer case and in your own freezer at home. Buying fresh is actually not the best.

I use Kale, Spinach and Broccoli with some bananas to neutralize the taste.

BTW, after being into weightlifting for years I can honestly say I've never seen muscle gains like what I've had since taking in lots of greens. I'm in better shape than I was at 20.

Carrot, Apple, Beet, WheatGrass And Spirulina

I also have been doing a:
Spinach, Cucumber, WheatGrass, Spirulina and Apple to make it sweet.

Strawberry, Banana, BlueBerry, Rasberry, OJ, Spirulina and a shot of wheatgrass.

Basically anything sweet, with Wheatgrass and Spirulina is where it is at! :thumbsup

I juice rather than blend. Usually do kale, spinach, parsely, asparagus, carrot, red pepper, ginger, and if I've been drinking heavily, beet and beet greens.

Watch this: http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/

They have tons of great ideas, and the reboot juicing plans are awesome :)

I do half a can of coconut water, cup of blue berries, Spinach and Kale. I found this to be an easy combo that tastes good.

DWB 11-16-2012 03:26 AM

I usually mix up a couple of the following:

Kale, Spinach, Broccoli, Cucumber, Mango, Dragon Fruit, Banana, Avocado, Coconut Milk, Water, and a handful Almonds.

Recently started adding avocado and raw almonds. Gives me an extra boost. Want to try wheat grass.

Can you actually taste the ginger? How much do you add?

Because this is a DWB thread I opened it with caution.

My breakfast the last 4 weeks have been broccoli, spinach, carrots, oatmeal and water. Mixing it and then just drink it.

The main reason I drink this shit is because I'm too lazy in the morning to make a "real" breakfast. But I assume it's very healthy too and also turns my shit green which is pretty cool.

Look at "Table 1": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheatgrass
When you have broccoli and spinach you almost got everything wheatgrass have to offer.

Paz 11-16-2012 05:19 AM

Here's a green one for you :)

CurrentlySober 11-16-2012 05:19 AM

I've bever tried a green smoothie, and certainly would not go out and purchase a blender and veggies etc...

But if I was walking down the street, and there was a store selling them, I'd certainly give it a try :)

If you lack energy, it's worth it. Just one of these a day can really give your body a real boost.

Errr no.... it's an alien's cum and I'm going to tell your Mum you've been hanging around in adult forums :)

I find it easier to drink juices instead of the thicker blends, so I juice. My favorite green is kale, mint, ginger, beet and spinach.

Another great recipe that I'm obsessed with (not green, though) is carrot, coconut and ginger.

Wouldn't bother, unless you are a cow.

It's a load of gash.

I like them. Sometimes I just take the chlorella / spirulina in capsule form and eat a salad / fruits :) Probably healthier this way.

nvaonline 11-16-2012 06:51 AM

for the dutch ppl here, i run a webshop in superfoods http://www.fitfoods.nl

i prefer: goji berries, chia seeds, chlorella, spirulina mixed with wheatgrass powder and regular juice :)

you are right about the frozen vegetables, they are frozen when they are at peak ripeness and don't lose much when frozen, but buying fresh is always ALWAYS going to taste a lot better so saying they aren't the best is ridiculous. They are definitely more convenient to store frozen though I'll give you that.

muscle gains come from eating proteins and overloading with weights.. not eating broccoli...

shimmy2 11-16-2012 07:04 AM

theyre called batidas here. good energy boost but they will make you fat. fruit has lots of natural sugars

Seen any research to support any of the claims of goji berries?

I keep looking and can't find any shred of proof they do what is claimed...

I also mix in a greens supplement loaded with Spirulina, which is one of the best proteins you can get. All I can say is I'm in much better shape now, than when I use to eat steak and eggs for protein. Not that I don't still love that stuff too, I just eat leas of it.

---and I go to the gym for weights once a week. Heavy squats and Deadlifts. No benching. Most of my other exercise is high intensity interval sprinting.
