Android and Windows8 mobile users -> in here please

Continuously working tirelessly to provide secure streams, I've so far helped lots do secure flash streaming as well as more recently iOS streaming ( see thread ).

Very recently, I've locked down the HTML5 stream for Android OS, but only so far tested it with Android 4.1+

If you have <4.1 for Android OS, please hit this URL and tell me if you see the stream.

I *think* it should work for Android 3, but not sure. It will *not* work for <3 for sure.

In the same breath, if you have Windows8 mobile OS, I'd very much like to work with you to lock down streams for this OS.... the above URL will not work for sure, but if you can spare me a few minutes (30 or so) I'd love to have you help me so I can lock down streams for this OS....

Thanks in advance :thumbsup

(it's all for helping me to help you - not for my financial gain)

You are a smart dude.

Keep up the good work. :thumbsup

MaDalton 11-14-2012 02:52 PM

does work on 4.1.1 (Samsung S3)

borked 11-14-2012 02:56 PM

Thanks guys - Android looks well and surely secured for OS 4+
Looking for <4 (does that still exist in the wild?)
But more importantly, would really like to hook up with a Windows8 mobile person.... apparently this shit is like Apple, throwing flash out of the window, so would very much like to have this thing locked down before the masses on Windows8 find their favourite tubes don't load...

cheers

and before anyone asks - I'm to skint to buy a windows8 mobile device to test with...as edgeprod says, winter is coming, so got to spend the bucks on waxing the skis....

I suspect you have come across this - but in case you have not....

It doesn't work on my Nokia Belle FP2 phone. It says: Can't connect to server. Bad web address.

AllAboutCams 11-14-2012 11:21 PM

No I hadn't - that makes life a lot easier (works great on 4+3)! :thumbsup
Even better now that I've tried it, I can see the connection is coming from an AVD so I could block that if I was really nasty
Now, if only one existed for Windows 8

Did you click the link or did you type in the url? And if the latter, did you type "iOS" correctly?

Your server doesn't allow ios instead of iOS...

borked 11-15-2012 01:32 AM

Edit... Accidental repost.... LOL

borked 11-16-2012 09:53 AM

bump for windows8 users...

FlowerKid 11-16-2012 02:05 PM

Still doesn't work on Nokia Belle FP2. I can see a play icon and when i click it, the media player starts and the error message as stated above appears. But HTML5 isn't implemented very good on this OS.

borked 11-16-2012 03:05 PM

You're on Symbian apparently
One thing at a time.... I asked for Android (works) and Windows 8 (will work when I get some testers)....

While it would appear you are on Symbian, if I were to bet any money, I'd say you were taking the piss.

I won't say any more, but if you are for real, contact me over email. I can't believe your mobile OS is for real.
So yeah, my HTML5 streamer was right to block your ass ;)

borked 11-16-2012 03:14 PM

other log entries are interesting, but here is the summary...
if totally wrong, please lmk

Code:

SessionCreate: Connection is not from iOS device (100%)
SessionCreate: Connection is not from a Windows8 device (100%)
SessionCreate: Connection is likely not from an Android OS device (85%)
SessionSpawn: Connection is not Android OS 3+ (95%)
SessionSpawn: Connection is not Android OS 4+ (75%)
SessionClose: Session Reject: Best guess is Symbian 3 (Mozilla)

sorry for the dumb question, but can you elaborate on "locking down" please? thanks

borked 11-16-2012 03:36 PM

for HTML5, by locking down I mean not showing an HTML5 stream.

It can mean falling back to a secure flash stream, or simply a lower quality HTML5 stream, but in essence it means displaying the full quality stream to the audience for which it was intended.

This simple test is meant to highlight - if you can't see the video, you are not on iOS or Android. That's all.
Last time I tried this, I confused people by showing the same video (but without the text overlay) and the people didn't understand what I was trying to prove....

So, if you can see the stream, you are on iOS or Android. If not, you are not.
If you can put the video up on a remote server, then please do. I would like to see it displayed remotely.

borked 11-16-2012 03:40 PM

Case in point - FlowerKid says his OS cannot play this HTML5 stream. The reason is my server says he isn't on Android or iOS (which is correct).
So in this example, my server would throw up the same video but in much lower quality, so that if it was pirated, it wouldn't matter.
Real customers not pirating would get the full quality video....

I have not implemented the fall-back "403.mp4" in this example, cos it just confuses people.... but suffice it to say, once detected as a non-compliant OS, an alternate video can be displayed (alternate being given in the GET request).

thanks for the explanation

isn't it easy to spoof though?

hehe - go ahead and try... trhat's the point of this example that has no fall-back to lower quality. If you see the video and you aren't on iOS or Android, you spoofed the server. In a real world example, you'd get a low quality video worth shit....
But I'd like for you to try - it's a lot more difficult than you may think :thumbsup

Thread bookmarked.. I might need to talk to you about something.. We are gearing up to really look deeper into mobile with secure streams... I was goina test your link but apparently, the "B" key stopped working on the phone heh

borked 03-27-2013 02:27 PM

http://bw.borkedcoder.com/ios/

ping for tests on something old, but very relevant

Android users - does the video go full screen or does it play in-line? Can you scrub (ie seek within the video)

Still waiting on any windows 8 mobile users to see if it works....

cheers

greg80 03-27-2013 02:39 PM

I bookmarked this thread. So you offer mobile streaming? I would need a solution, where I can make a playlist on my server and the videos are than played like a TV station.
