I don't know. I'm sure all of that plays a part in it, but it happened before Napster came around and before the Internet even started getting huge. I didn't get MTV until probably 1997, and even then I had difficulty finding music videos.

The real answer is very short and very simple: money

Reality TV makes more money.

Jersey Shore in on in 30 mins.

BlackCrayon 11-14-2012 01:18 PM

the video fails to make a point. you can download all shows shown on mtv as well. so what then?

Every time I see an ad touting DVRs that can record X amount of shows at the same time, all I can think is that there is almost never even one thing I want to watch on TV, let alone 5 or more at one time.

flashfire 11-14-2012 02:59 PM

music in general has been ruined by downloading....nobody makes an album anymore...just try to make a quick buck off a single

dance music with the same beat in every song and some novelty hook

I don't have a TV but I'm thinking about getting one.
I hate when a video gets stuck on the internet but that never happens on TV.
I start jamming to a song on my computer and then some process starts and the music
"clicks" or stalls and throws off my dance. That sucks and doesn't happen on TV.

And finally : There's actually less ads on TV now. :1orglaugh

Exactly. I haven't had one for years.

To be fair, I don't think it's ALL garbage. But you hafta get the top-tier cable package with a Tivo to get anything worth watching. It just wasn't worth it to me. I've got shit to do.

Pretty much in agreement. Back in the day, record albums were cohesive works, with lavish art on the cover, and sometimes even inside the fold-out ones. Gone forever, I'm afraid. And yeah, it makes me sound old, but much of today's music DOES suck. Too much computerized, auto-tuned, homogeneous shit by 19-year old girls, for 12 year old girls. :disgust

RyanEagle 11-14-2012 10:01 PM

Makes sense to me, although I do miss the old days of MTV.

Supz 11-14-2012 11:37 PM

thats what mtv2 is for

mromro 11-14-2012 11:42 PM

If someone wants to make oney why not start a MTV station tha just plays videos. You may not make millions like MTV but a few hundred thousand would work.

MTV stoped playing videos way before the internet. They suck.

Horny Dude 11-15-2012 12:38 AM

He has a point. Every time I hear that complaint about MTV not playing music its from some old fart like me...LOL. You want to see music videos log on to YouTube, whole shit load of them out there.

adult-help 11-15-2012 02:18 AM

Redrob 11-15-2012 02:25 AM

I used to really enjoy "Night Flight" in the early days of music videos. I am an old fart.

I fully understand - I'm still saving up to buy a TV myself... If I'm (REALLY) lucky, I should be able to afford a (2nd Hand) CRT tube, in about 2014?

CurrentlySober 11-15-2012 02:59 AM

Actually, if you watch it, its kinda a funny video :thumbsup
