.wmv Encoding Big Movies

Hey guys, i'm ripping some dvd's (licenced) and have these 3.5 gig files, the seem to crash vegas video and I have a 2.4ghz 1 gig memory etc. Whats the best way of ripping dvd's to .WMV???

I can do it to divx but .wmv seems like a whole new kettle of fish. Do I have to cut it up in vegas video and then run it through cleaner to drop the file size???

What other software out there is there that will do this?

You can do it with Windows Media Encoder command line utility. It won't crash. I assume you are taking it from raw avi right?

You will need to bring those .VOB files off the DVD into AVI format before you can take them to WMV.
