Kim Dotcom wants to restart an abandoned project to increase the bandwidth of New Zealand's internet with a $400 million dollar project. He wants to raise the money by suing Hollywood studios for "unlawful and political destruction of my business."

I'm sure that is going to work out just exactly has he thinks it will.

Dude lives the most lavish lifestyle ever - fleets of cars with license places donning illegal phrases- yet now all of a sudden he wants to take $400m and give it back to the people? LOL.

I think he's both smart and stupid. He's obviously intelligent to a degree, but he's also stupid to a degree too.

At the end of the day, would you trade places with him? I wouldn't... Dude is still facing a massive court battle. The only real positive to come out of this for him is that he is "famous" or should i say 'renowned.' He is also famous/renowned for all the wrong reasons, right now.

He might come out on top, he also might come out on bottom, and the process is going to be painful. In my opinion, the people who piss off the government and come out on top later on, are typically the ones that can later benefit the government or become an asset to them. When you keep sticking your middle finger up and telling people to fuck off, it usually doesn't end well. Same thing for Julian Assange. I think Julian in a way is a hero, bringing transparency to the gov't. But most people who go up against the government, lose. And when you're important / known enough, they really want to see you lose. The people I know who have beaten the government, the stories I have read, are lower level people who beat government at a lower level, like local or state for some type of wrongdoing. Pretty confident Assange in the end will get fucked hard. :2 cents:

I think he has played a blinder - Kiwis love a Robin Hood type character and are notoriously liberal.

They also enjoy sticking it to the Americans.

He knows that New Zealand is the key to his future and wants to make as many friends there as possible.

Highly intelligent people are very often considered borderline to insane.
He probably sees this as a cool challenge.
He will receive a very large settlement.
The US government is happy they could stop SOPA and this case was a cheap demonstration why SOPA would never work

Maybe so but New Zeland is one of our strongest allies in Afghanistan.

I think that is more to with history and the connection with the UK than any sense of duty towards the US.
