You can bet money, well you are betting money. That the big donaters will get their rewards if their man wins. And it won't be them paying back the debt.

That's what Democracy is, it allows a country to be bought. This is why the US/UK want to spread Democracy, so as they can control those nations simply by sending some money over.

However, sometimes there's voter fraud too, there's a lot of that going on in the US; Electronic Voting Machines and Shenanigans
