After more than 400 hands, only one player remained: Greg Merson, your 2012 poker World Champion. For the win, the 24-year-old poker pro earned the game?s most prestigious title, the championship diamond bracelet and the $8,531,853 first-place prize. :thumbsup

That was quite the long 3 handed session, Merson took some horrible bad beats, but hung in there.

Damn I didn't realize this just happened. What do yuo think of the whole November Nine thing? I don't much like it, doesn't seem to build much hype. If there were more pros I would understand, but rarely are there.

pros don't stand a chance these days in the main event. You have what? 6000 players? and about 5950 of them all playing to suck out a pro before they go broke.

make the buy in 100k and the skill levels would improve i'm sure.

Definitely takes a lot more luck than it used to

Well, both Phil Ivey and Michael Mizrachi has made the final table in the last couple years. They are probably both in the top 5 players in the world category, in my opinion. You can't expect to see poker pros on 4 or 5 out of 9 seats or something. So yes, you are right, the amateurs out numbers the pros.

Merson is as close to a pro as it gets, although he doesn't have a ton of live game experience, he's a well known online pro. He was second in the player of the year rankings going in to the WSOP and passed up Hellmuth to claim the player of the year by winning the main event.

Watching Merson throughout the main event I thought for sure his hyper aggressive play would eventually cause him to crash and burn as it usually does to early chip leaders. However, he knew when to tone it down and change his style of play for the long haul.
