Hiker dies after falling from Camelback Mountain

bee attack :helpme

A hiker died after falling from a cliff on Camelback Mountain on Monday, according to Phoenix Fire officials.

The man was hiking with two other men on a trail between Echo Canyon and Ice Box Canyon, Phoenix Fire Captain Scott McDonald said.

The hikers were attacked by bees and the man fell approximately 150 feet to his death, McDonald said.

The other two men took shelter in the canyon from the bees, McDonald said.

The two hikers were rescued from the mountain and each suffered more than 300 bee stings, McDonald said.

Both men were taken to the hospital in serious condition but are expected to fully recover, McDonald said.

McDonald said that one of the rescuers who was sent into the canyon wearing a bee suit received multiple stings. One other hiker also suffered bee stings, officials said.

The Africanized Bees are nasty here and have been known for killing large animals like horses.

They say when attacked by bees to run in a straight line and the bees will eventually stop chasing you but the Africanized Bees are extremely aggressive and don't give up that easy.

I could imagine on the way down the cliff, he was thinking multiple bee stings would be preferable to mashing his body into a bloody paste.

It probably wasn't that easy to see if he had hundreds of them stinging his face. I grew up on the easy coast and use to either leave bees alone or just get away from that area but the bees here in AZ are quite a bit different. Like I said, they have been known to kill full grown horses.
