Should Turbans Be Allowed In Major League Baseball?
This is a little follow up to the other post I made on immigrants in north america.
Would you be offended if MLB players were allowed to wear turbans instead of baseball caps? Would this change the look and feel of the American culture? To me, baseball (as well as other things) is a symbol of USA. Allowing an immigrant to wear a turbon on his head instead of a baseball cap is offensive in the same way a Canadian RCMP officer was allowed to wear his turban instead of the usual hat RCMP officers wear. In case you dont know, RCMP officers and what they wear is a symbol of canada, a turban is not. |
I'm just babbling now. :glugglug

Fuck No

Baseball players wear baseball caps dammit. Not cowboy hats, not tophats, not turbans, not yarmulkes.

If the turban or whatever is a bona-fide religious neccessity, like a yarmulka, then so what if a player wears a turban. All I care about is whether or not so and so is a damn good baseball player. Otherwise, it's just plain old racism disguised as "culture preservation". The RCMP did not lose its Canadian symbolism because a handful of Sikhs wore turbans. And baseball will still be baseball if a handful of players wear yarmulkas or turbans. Jeesh.
While you're at it, why not try to ban baseball games in other countries like Japan - after all it's an "American sport" and should not be played by non-Americans. |

There's a reason it's called a UNIFORM.

Seriously is a guy going to play hockey wearing a turban instead of a face mask?
