Search Engine Optimization

Last year I bought a couple of books on search engine optimization and read every article I could get my hands on. I thought I would try out what I had learned on a couple of sites. One was already up and running but had very little SE traffic, the other was a brand new domain that I had never done anything with.

I took what I had learned and applied it to the live site about the beginning of November. I have been watching its placement in Google and the other little peon engines and it has been steadily climbing.

It now has top 10 placement for several keywords and a top 20 placement for a very popular keyword (about 2 mil results). The site has a pagerank of 6 which is up from 4 when I started working on it.

The site now gets between 200-250 hits from Google every day and another 100 or so from Yahoo. That site is selling physical merchandise and I am seeing some decent money from it now. I can't wait to see what happens when I crack the top 10 for the big search terms.

The new site was one I really wanted to experiment with. No links existed to this site anywhere. None. It was a brand new site. I wanted to see if I could get it into Google with a decent ranking without worrying about link popularity, etc.

I built a pretty basic site and did not submit the site to any directories or anything. Within the last two months, that site has started getting about 100 hits a day from Google and between 25-50 from Yahoo. Even better, the pagerank is at 7 which completely defies Googles definition of pagerank. I still don't even have a link to that site on any of my other sites.

How can it be this easy? Did I get lucky? Did Google screw up? I can't believe that if getting that high quality SE traffic is so simple, more sites aren't doing it. What gives?

Hi,

I would like to exchange ideas about that. I tried to email you, but the GFY admins disabled that option.

My mail is brazzb at yahoo.com

Heh, I really don't have anything I would like to tell anyone about what I did. I apparently have an idea that works and if you think I am going to discuss that with anyone, you're crazy. :winkwink:
