Desktop --- what to try, Redhat or FreeBSD

Now I'm really sick of win.. installing a scanner shoot my w2k. Only removing the servicepack 3 and replacing the up to date files with the original ones made it run again.

So I want to try Linux on one of my machines. What do you think I should go for. FreeBSD or Redhat? My servers all run on FreeBSD so that'll be an advantage. However I'm looking more for a reliable home solution.

Thanks in advance

FreeBSD is better than Redhat, but Redhat is much easier, especially if you use it like you would use Windows.

Oh, and much more rpms can be found for redhat, which takes away some of the "fun" of installing stuff.

so redhat is for the lazy one...
and are there any hints on how to install it.. I have 4 SCSI HDs in that box, all with 4 partitions

Mandrake is far superior to red hat..
easier to install..has better features and best of all UT3 works WONDERFULLY..on red hat ya gotta mess with the drivers, recompile that, screw with this..

Bullshit. Have you tried Redhat 8?

No hints needed. It's like installing windows, but easier.

hahaha.. OK, I'll give FreeBSD a try. I don't mind if it's harder to install as long as it's reliable and stable

Why not install both?

is it the same mess as with having 2 diff windows versions? Here you have to install applications two times so that they work...
