Canadian doctors aim to stem their country?s obesity epidemic in a radical new way: Copying anti-smoking campaigns. They have suggested slapping threatening labels on pizzas, soda drinks and other junk food, warning of the diseases they might cause.

Spunky 10-25-2012 12:38 PM

It doesn't really work for cigarettes,at least not for me so I can't see it being effective for food

Slappin Fish 10-25-2012 12:48 PM

Great more condescension and infantilization.

bronco67 10-25-2012 12:49 PM

I'm not even kidding...this thread has motivated me to go out and get some McDonalds fries. See ya.

ottopottomouse 10-25-2012 01:05 PM

These things always make me want to eat whatever they are attempting to put you off.

Yup, smokers will smoke regardless, and fatties will eat regardless... :upsidedow

baddog 10-25-2012 01:11 PM

I don't eat it anyway, but I doubt it would change much for the general population.

+1 .................

Colmike9 10-25-2012 02:25 PM

Fat people shouldn't ruin it for the rest of us. It's called exercise and self control.
I know that some people have a valid reason to be overweight, but there are way too many obese people for that to be the case..

bigluv 10-25-2012 02:54 PM

Education and anti-marketing do work as evidenced by the smoking rates.

CDSmith 10-25-2012 03:00 PM

Not much of a junk food a-holic anyway but I will say this much; the pizzas I buy are all good for you.

Real mozza - good.
tomatoes - good
fresh veggies (mushrooms, green peppers, onions etc) -- all good
wheatflour crust - amazingly good

I will be laughing at their feeble labels.

RyanEagle 10-25-2012 03:20 PM

The pictures are pretty grotesque, but other than that, I think we all know that this stuff is bad for us. That doesn't mean it isn't delicious once in a while. All things in moderation, etc.

CyberHustler 10-25-2012 03:24 PM

That foot man.... last year I watched my wife's mom foot go from exactly that to no foot at all... awe man the smell :Oh crap

Captain Kawaii 10-25-2012 03:29 PM

Prop 37 is on the ballot for California now. It was reported yesterday on Democracy Now by a UC Berkeley prof that big corps do not want labeling because they fear the backlash of the public when people realize what is in the GMO's.

One way to kill off people...keep the labels off. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I imagine in 50 years the average US citizen will be a 300 pound Mexican. :1orglaugh
Good for biz, bra.

mineistaken 10-25-2012 03:32 PM

these would definitely stop many people from time to time, like "maybe I would like some soda, but oh well its not good so I will not buy it today" etc. These things are definitely effective.

Sly 10-25-2012 03:38 PM

I think I would laugh and go buy some. I don't have obesity issues. I know my limits.

pornmasta 10-25-2012 03:44 PM

it always fun to see this kind of pictures when you practice sport everyday while it makes you hungry :D

Supz 10-25-2012 04:40 PM

Smoking Kills doesnt stop me from smoking. So I doubt it. But I stay away from fast food. I get my fix of shit that will kill me from smoking.

bigluv 10-25-2012 05:13 PM

LOL at all you guys thinking you are immune to marketing.
Yeah, you're all rebels and originals. True trendsetters.

Best-In-BC 10-25-2012 07:15 PM

The single most important thing that helped A LOT of people quit was jacking up the prices on smokes sky-high.

Drop the prices to $1 a pack and see how many quit smoking, warning labels or no warning labels.

So if you wanna achieve the same results with junk food, create a fat tax for it.

scarlettcontent 10-26-2012 12:52 AM

Burnt flour has acrylamide, a well-established carcinogen and neurotoxin (causes nerve damage).

nico-t 10-26-2012 02:30 AM

fits right in with our growing 'police state' countries. If this stuff keeps growing at this rate in 20-30 years from now the world will look pretty.

seeandsee 10-26-2012 07:03 AM

will not change nothing, same as ciggaretes

Sophie Delancey 10-26-2012 07:19 AM

That would gross me the hell out. That said, it would cause a bizarre ripple effect and people would be tied up in courts over what merits being labelled.

ManicaMark 10-26-2012 08:54 AM

If I was a big fatty fat fat it would probably put me off. But I'm not; so it doesn't.
NOW GET IN MAA BEEELLY!!

i ate half a medium pizza for a carb load this past sunday. I'm lean as hell. As long as you don't eat that stuff often and get even some moderate exercise in it can fit in perfectly into a healthy diet.

...i wont even mention all the other crap i ate that day to reach the carb goals :1orglaugh

Si 10-26-2012 10:24 AM

The reason it doesn't stop people smoking (like me) is because I haven't kicked my drug addiction to nicotine yet. Pretty simple.

Unless you're addicted to a certain food (which I don't believe myself, but could be true.) then these kind of warnings will actually work for food.

Not only that, if someone's products are full of added calories, excess fat, salt, etc. then a company getting these labels thrown on their products will soon change their methods and recipes.

pornmasta 10-26-2012 03:55 PM

something that would work:

ColBigBalls 10-26-2012 06:00 PM

Mmm foot hole.

brassmonkey 10-26-2012 06:39 PM

i ate a whole pizza yesterday with the works and curly fries :)

pornsprite 10-26-2012 08:43 PM

Marketing really does work if you saw those types of messages consistently for an extended period of time it would have an effect on everyone.

mozadek 10-26-2012 09:20 PM

Nope, those fries in the picture sure does look delicious.

John-ACWM 10-27-2012 05:54 AM

No, I choose what I eat, although warnings can be put on so many foods.

fatfoo 10-27-2012 07:44 AM

It is nice to read these warnings and prevention ideas. Meditations can include thoughts about improving health. People just don’t know everything about what is good for health. Some people just keep smoking of eating junk food. What is going to happen – often unpredictable. Sometimes life just seems unbearable – some people die from completely unexpected accidents.
