I noticed you changed your site design rather drastically. The new design is cool, but nowhere near the technical masterpiece of the old one.

Is it just me, or is EVERYONE a graphic designer lately?

the primary reason for that was because I was spending FAR too much time maintaining my own site when that time could be better spent working on projects for my clients.... simplification was needed, and achieved.

beats the hell outta me.... I've been working toward this since '93, so I know where I came from.... but nowdays they seem to pop up overnight by the dozen. Steal a copy of Photoshop and bang... you're a fucking designer.

because unlike the majority of the backyard 'designers' popping up all over the place, I give pretty damn good value for the buck. I don't just crank something out and say 'here ya go...'
I'm by no means expensive.... actually alot less than most.... I'm not the fastest, but I bust ass to try and make shit extraordinary.

but then you got guys like http://www.nzdesignz.com/ that are essentially nothing more than a fucking annoyance to the industry... they irritate designers, and waste buyer's time & money.

but.... you know..... it's that pipe dream of fast easy money I guess.... don't know where they got that idea from, but it's still bringing more every day...

it's not fast, and it's not easy..... I made exactly nothing for my first 8 months in this biz. :winkwink:

I like to design shit. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

personally, I'd rather be part of the crew on a fucking boat or something.... I do this shit because I can.... not because I have any great love for it. I'd leave it in the blink of an eye if the right opportunity presented itself.

I think this is what I want to do.. for now. There's still so much to learn. When I'm the best I can move on to the next thing. That'll take a good while though. :)

I don't know where designers get the idea of fast easy money from, but everyone else that gets in the biz with the hopes of making a quick buck probably get the idea from all the "bling" they see on our affiliate programs (not mine in particular, but in general), which of course is put there by hired designers in hopes of recruiting some starry-eyed, ambitious entrepreneur to join that program and start making "boatloads of cash" for himself. Or herself.

seriously... if someone offered me a decent hourly wage for passing out wetsuits on the daily snorkel cruise, mixing a few drinks, and some occasional diving for lost gear... I'd drop this biz like a dirty whore without thinking twice about it.

my goal has never been 'getting rich'.... only enjoying life. And I don't need much to accomplish that.... I'm already pretty much there... I can't say I don't enjoy it now.... but admitedly, this adult shit brings me more grief & headaches than pleasure.

by the way... for those that noticed, I've been pulling an all nighter here.... that means I'm gonna be sleeping on the beach all fucking day as soon as the sun comes up here in a few hours... :glugglug

Interesting. But would you really be able to stay away? I mean, there is an addiction factor to the biz for whatever reason. Be it the money, the fact that it's tits and ass, or just the fact that "the sky's the limit" as to one's success potential.

Even just hanging out at this board can be addicting. Believe me, I never thought I'd post so much here. Never wanted to get beyond 100 posts. But here I am. For whatever reason. And it's not like I don't have a business to run.

i just don't fucking care anymore. It's all just work. I still find passion in it, but only when I'm deep into the heart of a design job.... the rest of it is fucking tedious.
