I liked the first half of last (1st) season, but haven't seen the rest...
Has it fallen apart?

It's gone off the rails already and you're surprised? Water is also wet.

Wasn't a big fan of the 1st ep this season, but I liked the 2nd one.

It's really trying to reflect on the time period it takes place in. There was a lot of reported alien encounters in the 1960s. Demons and ghosts are typical for any horror themed show/movie. Lesbians? Is that an issue? There was a gay couple in the first season. Besides, they're showing how things were different for gay and lesbian couples in the 60s.
Everything in the core of the show is relevant to the time period in which it takes place. As for the little bits that happen "today," there's nothing that's "out there" that you wouldn't see in any other horror show/movie today.
On a side note, how fucking hilarious was it when Adam Levine knee-ed his wife in the head when she was giving him a blowjob and his arm was getting ripped off? I was seriously like, "Damn! he just knee-ed her in the fucking head!"
BJ starts around 4:05, knee to the head around 4:30 :thumbsup

Well, all new characters. A few actors from the first season are back in new roles, most notably Jessica Lange and the kid who played Tate in the first season. There's a few others as well.

Going to lose me quick if I do not see some story development, so far it is pretty much a slasher film
