People make money doing this?

Brown Bear 02-16-2003 03:15 AM

If it's oversaturated, then why am I making so much money?

I make more money now than I ever have. My revenues have been growing steadily for years. My profit margins are lower than when I started, but since I've expanded my business, the overall amount I'm making now is more than ever.

Ask Quiet, I'll bet he will tell you the same thing, I bet his profit margin is lower today than it was 2 years ago, but I bet the overall amount of money he's making is more than it was 2 years ago.

The problem most of these sites will encounter and die very quickly is that they bring nothing new or required to the net. They think porn is the easiest way of making money. That no money, experience or talent is needed to be a pornographer.

Don't worry about them they will die very soon.

You want to be assured of success? Do not aim at the lowest common denominator, do not do what every other clown with a computer or camera can do. Not because it does not sell, but because it is over saturated.

What is not over saturated on the net is quality, why does every one cry that Matri's content is over exposed? Why have we come from no where to being a major content provider in less than a year?

Because there are so few people who are doing it as well. There are hundreds doing it at the bottom, rise above there and see your income rise as well.

Just my 2 cents.

Paul Markham's tip of the day;

Avarage content produces below average sales.

Why? The net is saturated with average, sites, content, webmasters, etc. You want to make more?

Be above average and see the competition disappear.

Thanks, but I'm not too happy about it. It's a sign I spend too much time here, and not enough time working. Although most of the time I post here while my other computer is busy encoding MPEG files, so its not like I could be doing all that much more work anyways, at least thats how I justify it.

I actually have more posts than this, since I originally had another username that I registered back in March 2001.

The word oversatured isn't a factor in the equation if you're creative.

Brown Bear 02-16-2003 06:34 AM

Anyone can get water for free all over the place, all you gotta do is turn on a tap and drink it, so why is there a multi-billion dollar industry in selling bottled water?

The answer? Quality sells and people will pay a premium to get it.

Sooooo....if we use our brains and relate my little analogy to the porn business you can see how there is free porn everywhere, so why would anyone pay for it?

The answer? Quality sells and people will pay a premium to get it.

If someone comes in and can't make a go... well, fire sale prices for exclusive content are always a great thing!

pinkthumb 02-16-2003 06:29 PM

The situation is the further removed from the content on the economic food chain the less money you will make. Those who have a willing girlfriend, or a bevy of willing young ladies who love to pose, or perform in front of a camera, a digital camera and the funds to pay for dedicated hosting are the one's who will ultimately survive. The are the ones who are selling to IMG and all the other sponsor companies and are laughing all the way to the bank. Us newbies with a small budget, or no budget have to resort to having sponsor supplied content and have to live with the pop up, pop under, blind links, and redirect crap they pull when a website visitor clicks on one of their banners. The No Bullshit web ring refused to list me because of that. That eliminated a great traffic opportunity. My advice is to emulate the guy who started The Wetlands. The economy on the Internet is no different than it is offline. Like in real estate...location, location, location. Supply, supply, supply. There is always a demand for it.
