aflex 02-16-2003 12:39 AM

i'm more of a mp3 guy myself.. about 350gB archived on CD-R and old hd's.

gonna convert it all to DVD-R or DVD-RW sooner or later, once i feel like buying a shitload of media for my dvd burner..

nocostporn 02-16-2003 12:40 AM

I won't be a hypocrite like everybody else since I've got gigs and gigs of mp3's...but when I think about it,we are the most hypocritical people on the face of the earth! You can get somebody banished from this industry just for using somebody elses content and the same people complaining are uploading their content with a crack of cuteftp lol...WHATS WRONG WITH US?!:winkwink:

I don't get it. I never buy them. Why not just rent. It comes cheaper and you'll see it once.. like you would if you bought it.

Hey Equinox, are DivX rips prettymuch the same quality as DVD ?

Zebra 02-16-2003 04:31 AM

Don't have any movies on my PC.. I have downloaded a few and find watching them on a PC sucks even though I have a nice monitor and speakers.

I have a 63" Widescreen TV and an awesome home theater setup. Why would I buy all that shit then ruin the experience with a crappy copy of a movie? It's not about cost, it's about quality. I think I've got somewhere around 500 DVD's.. I lost track a long time ago.

Zebra 02-16-2003 04:41 AM

DarkJedi - DivX rips are NOT as good as DVD's. A standard DivX rip is about 1/8th the quality of a DVD.

Here are a few comparisons:
DVD Video Bitrate: 3000-8000 kbit/s
Divx Video Bitrate: 300-1000 kbit/s

DVD Audio Bitrate: 192-448 kbit/s
DivX Audio Bitrate: 64-192 kbit/s

If you are only watching them on a PC monitor then it might not make a huge difference. If you are watching them on a decent size TV with a stereo system it can make a HUGE difference.

500 DVDs ? damn, thats a lot.

500 x $30 = $15000 ?

duroflex 02-16-2003 04:48 AM

I haven't got that much, but I do have the....

The Band of Brothers boxed set. 6 dvds of excellent WW2 action.

The best war story ever told, imo. I just love my little boxed set.:winkwink:

delia 02-16-2003 04:49 AM

If i want to see a movie i go to the cinema. Only if it's something really new and interesting i download it from kazaa and write it on cd, i don't have to much space left on my hard drive. :(

DX 02-16-2003 04:51 AM

Zebra 02-16-2003 05:08 AM

duroflex - Got Band of Brothers also. Awesome mini-series. Wish they would do one on the Pacific war.
Check out the 24 box set. Takes about 20 hours to watch the whole season but pretty decent show. Waiting for season 2 to be over so it can come out on DVD.

My family doesn't use movie rental places, they just come to my house :1orglaugh

candyflip 02-16-2003 08:08 AM

I've got over 200 DVDs, but I've started to curb that habit. What's nice is that now you can get them 2 weeks after release from Blockbuster for $10 or so.

Ross 02-16-2003 08:39 AM

O prefer to buy my DVD's or go see movies in the cinema!

but most of the movies mentioned in this thread are excellent :thumbsup
