A little slice of paradise [pic]

My father and I spent the day doing some genealogy research in a few towns along the north shores of Lake Erie.

Our search took us to a private residence where a church built by my great-great-great grandfather had been re-located to for preservation.

The property owner was gracious enough to give us a tour of the property, including this area behind the church that simply blew me away.

Taken earlier this afternoon:

You're familiar with the area?

SilentKnight 10-21-2012 07:24 PM

Slightly different perspective...

That's a beautiful picture. Looking at the ground reminded me of my current research into PERMACULTURE.

TampaToker 10-21-2012 07:30 PM

Nice picture but no way in hell i would walk down that path. :)

It was unusual - the trees on either side are evergreens...yet the leaves are from deciduous trees elsewhere on the grounds.

johnnyloadproductions 10-21-2012 10:21 PM

Pretty, I knew of a similar scenery (not nearly as dense foliage) on a Frisbee golf course where I grew up.

Mutt 10-22-2012 11:50 AM

i grew up in the area - what town/city is that residence in?

amazing autumn scenery.

Rochard 10-22-2012 11:52 AM

Very nice, but not what I consider paradise. Far from it.

When I was a kid we had a small group of white birch trees in this one corner of our property, about fifty trees... When it rained and the water would freeze it would freeze on the trees making the trees bend over, creating a huge ice cavern. It was always neat in there.

Sarah_Jayne 10-22-2012 12:14 PM

I have always enjoyed your photography. Some of you urban decay stuff has stayed in my mind for years.

NaughtyRob 10-22-2012 12:22 PM

Me too, western PA. Lake Erie was great to visit as a kid.

Sounds unreal, any pictures (random from the internet) to show how it looked like?

Thanks Sarah, that's very kind of you. :)

We're working on a coffeetable book for just the urban exploration stuff. We had one made for the Niagara scenic landscapes last year.

The property owner told me its become a favorite area for wedding photography - especially being very close to the old church.

There were a couple of photographers there on Sunday when we shot these...but they were shooting near the church and away from the tree area.

It was mid-afternoon when I shot these - but I imagine it could look pretty creepy (or occultish as you say) with different lighting. I'd love to shoot it at night with colored spotlights shining in from either side...or using lightpainting.

never heard of it - small town rural Ontario is nice.

Diomed 10-23-2012 01:37 AM

Gotta ask,

what camera and effect?

Lykos 10-23-2012 04:08 AM

Nikon d80 - and very little f/x in post edit. I slightly boosted the color saturation on the path leaves with a combo of imagenomic portraiture and topaz...and enhanced the lighting levels a bit in PS.

flashfire 10-23-2012 07:09 PM

wow nice pictures
