I am loggeg in as superuser what commands to display current pass and what to do to change it?

You can't view the current password...

you can change it by typing:

passwd root<enter>

I tied that but a spray of white liquid came out of the monitor and shot me in the eye

KC is right, you cannot view or reverse crypted passwords in UNIX. If you don't know the root password you can try searching for exploits for local users to gain root access (not very likely, unless you haven't kept your patchs current), or you have to physically reboot the machine at the console and boot into single user mode, mount the root partion, and force a new password. do this using "vipw", copy the password from your user account over and then change it.

If you machine is colocated you'll have to call them and ask them for root password recovery. take note of how much authentication they ask for before the perform this task!
