Yeah...you just go cold turkey, fight the sickness and get clean. 10 days of hell and you should be fine. I helped a buddy kick this summer, and he's been using for about 16 years.

He spent the last 7 using on occasion and going to a Methadone clinic. He also said that coming down off of the 'done was worse than coming off of the dope. We were able to get him to break from that while using a little dope to keep the sickness at bay.

Once he felt he could do it...he just did. I think that has a lot to do with it as well. Everyone is different, and I'm sure this fucked up example won't be much help to you.

Seen it before, mutiple times. I am now watching Requiem for a dream - I simply can't imagine how far a physical addiction can go.

Not without extreme pain and suffering. People can die from narcotic withdrawl. Seeing a doctor is the best thing to do, Believe me.

get some methadone and self treat.. its possible but highly unlikely one can do it on their own long term...

Probably not, You can try really hard to scale down the addiction by reducing the intake but your will would need to be ironclad.

Most treatment results in 2 daily trips to the clinic for methadone maintenance doses. :2 cents:

Methadone isn't going to help short term.

I've been in methadone detox since oct. of last year and currently am taking 130mg of diskette methadone per day.

It helps but doesn't help SHORT TERM. If you're going to go through methadone detox, it's going to be a good year or so before you're clean and healthy again :)

Methadone will help as long as you have been dependent for a long time. Short term users weill only get addicted to the methadone more.

i remember taking a methadone tablet a couple years ago....my neighbor gave it to me, didn't do shit for me....

You can OD on Methadone, can't you? I remember that one IRC kiddy who OD on it a month or so ago...

I helped a friend get clean using Buprinex (sp?), prescribed by local docs and supposedly easier to kick than the methodone.

4 months from mainlining to 2 intermuscular shots a day of 1/2 ampule of Buprinex each.

Sure you can OD.

When you start methadone detox, they start you out on around 30mg. Which isn't much at all if you're dependent on narcotics.

They raise it over the period of a couple months till you are at a stable dose.

To OD you would just have to TAKE MORE than you're daily dose.

And to do that, you would have to be a complete idiot :)

most people need help , or need to know that its the end if things don't change. I know that I went to levels lower than I even wanted , just for that little baggy . and years later.. I still crave coke . but will never touch the shit again .

In the early 80's Cocaine was out of control. It was everywhere.
At the corp I worked at back then the Chairman, CEO, VP, execs were all doing coke. I was the only one in the whole company that stayed clean.

It got really sad to watch, cause I saw so many friends ruin their lives and finances from it.

A few got into Heroine and those guys really fucked up their lives. One committed suicide, another ended up a bum on the streets.

And for the record, yes I've been there. Not with H, but with blow. Clean 15 years now. Nasty fucking habit albeit without the physical withdrawal symptoms like heroin.

16 years might have been an understatement. I think I remember him saying that he got high for the first time at 21. He's 40 now, and in the 6 years that I've known him...he's used. He's clean now, off the dope and the methadone. I've heard that before, he's a friend...what else do you do. I took him in and helped to get him clean. I wouldn't recommened that...cause now my girl is living in another city.

Methadone clinics only work if you want them to work. In most cases, they're just legal drug operations. They don't encourage you to come off of the shit. They want you there paying your $8 - 20 a day for the shit. It's a business, just the the rest of the drug world.

Anyone I know who's kicked it has struggled.

Its safe to be addicted for 2 years to a drug.
Anything over 2 years is dangerous.

People should just stay away from that crap.

I did heroin on a daily basis form the age 15-19. Was buying some weed or coke in N.Philly and got my "free" sample. I know real after school special shit. I tried it once before but took too much and passed out, thought i tot be pointless. That second bag about 2 monthes later I split it with a friend, like cumming for about 6 hours straight, in other words it felt better then puss. Anyway, I didnt miss a day for about 18 monthes, I got arrested for 2 counts of B & E, being as I was a juvenille then my mom locked me up in the house and I detoxed for the first time cold turkey. It was rough but I lived: cold sweats, shits, puking, insomnia, bones hurt. Heroin has the oppsite effect on you when you detox to when you experience the high. Where as cold sweats you feel comfortable, etc. I think I detoxed about a good seven times in four years it only gets worse one after the other. My last they put me on methadone for about a week and it was cake except for the not sleeping part, thats was always the worst for me. After day 3 or 4 you hallucinate always knowing what will make you get over this in the back of your head. "Basketball diaries" portrays it pretty well. Anyway I have been off it about 5 years, it took me to the edge and back: by the time I was 19 Ive seen: friends OD in front of me, stolen form everyone I knew and didnt know, robbed street hookers, robbed kids who didnt know know better yet, sold drugs, stole credit cards, robbed houses, been to 17 rehab programs most of which I dodnt last more then 1-2 days, sold hotbags, witnessed straight up people getting shot over it, been homeless, when under 18 got taken from house by courts, done everything short of selling my ass. Its bad news. Still I never lie about it its part of me and when asked I wouldnt do it different, it makes me who I am, also I when asked I dont even lie. My friends will ask me sometimes, "did it feel good" hell yeah it does or I wouldnt have been doing it so long. except of course when youre out of it. It something you really have to know in your heart if you want to be done of it. I faced up to four years in jail and I still couldnt keep my urine clean. It wasnt until I spent a couple days in jail that I realized I was done. I probalbly wouldnt have been able to keep with it but I started getting drunk and found out that alcohol can be far better then heroin. LOL.
Sorry to be so long about this I can go for days with my views of different aspects of this drug.
