Strange Issue with Vegas 11 and Rendering on a laptop

I can't recall ever seeing an issue like this.

When rendering a video out with Sony Vegas 11 on my laptop,
The screen will go dim for a second and then come back full brightness.

I realized what its doing is going back and forth from being plugged in
    to using battery power.

Has anyone ever seen anything similar? Or have any ideas what may be causing it?

Perhaps it is dimming the screen to send more power to the gfx card, then coming back on a second later after it then knows how much power it is going to need.

Depends on the laptop. My Macbook Pro will run circles around a lot of desktops.
