My Mac crashed again

Looking to replace it with mac mini. Anyone have experience with it? Mostly using it to render movies and pictures. Yay or nay?

Chosen 10-06-2012 11:04 PM

Replace it with Windowc PC http://a.fsdn.com/con/icons/tr/troll...et/problem.png

ggrrssyydik 10-06-2012 11:11 PM

I do have a PC, but I only use it minimally. mainly to access my servers remotely or web editing.

I don't think a mini would do that great rendering videos.

Please explain your reasonings? :Oh crap

You can get a Mac Mini with a 2.7GHz i7 proc., and 8GB of DDR3, as well as a Radeon HD 6630M with 256MB of GDDR5 memory on the card, and Thunderbolt and HDMI out.

Those specs blow many desktop rigs right out of the water IMHO ...

The only thing "small" about a Mac Mini, is it's desktop footprint!

DamageX 10-07-2012 05:33 AM

Time to get a computer?

MrCain 10-07-2012 05:35 AM

Liar! Everybody knows Macs don't crash.

lol. I worked for Apple for 3 years and that is absolutely bullshit :upsidedow

btw, most Mac Mini's ARE slow and you can't judge them on specs alone..

2MuchMark 10-07-2012 12:10 PM

I'd buy an iMac instead of the mini back. I don't know for sure but I think mini macs are pretty basic and underpowered for things like rendering.

crockett 10-07-2012 02:39 PM

Looks at the iMac sitting on the side of my desk.. Attempts to turn it on to see if it magically fixed it's self..

Derp.. nope still won't go past a blank white screen..

Continues typing this message from my PC that still works great 4 years after I built it.

First try removing all extra peripherals as well as the ethernet cable if any and retry.

If same issue: Boot up in safe mode by starting it up and holding shift. If you want to see what it's doing while booting safe mode, hold shift+command+v.

If that doesn't work, hold Command+Option+P+R and turn on the computer and wait hold until you hear two startup chimes.

If that doesn't work, see if you can boot to your OS disk by holding c when powering on.
If you can, run a disk repair from disk utility. If no errors, repair permissions too.

If that doesn't work, remove 3rd party hardware, including RAM if you can, and retest.

If that doesn't work and you can boot to the disk, run archive and install.

If that doesn't work, you can try erase and install if you want to..

If all fails, take it to an Apple store or throw it away :upsidedow

pretty lame trolling attempt, everyone knows that macs don't crash... :error

So, for actual, real-world, useful things you use a PC... What's the Mac for? Youtube? Facebook? Yahoo Games?

Photoshop, rendering videos, and downloading. I dont go on youtube other than a few videos I posted, no yahoo games or any games. rarely go on facebook, only to mess friends and family.

I dont understand why some people hate mac. For certein things it works better than pc. And to say mac never crash? My Mac is 4 years old, always on, even when I leave or go to sleep its either downloading, rendering or exporting a project. In 4 years time I had the hard drive failed twice. After 4 years I figure its time to get another one. hence why I ask about mac mini.

Why don't you get that Mac shit out of your head and go buy a computer that fucking works?

Acer, Compaq and Dell are good stuff.

Try it.

You'll like it.

just swap out the drive what's the big deal... personally I use pc with i7 for renders... in your case I would 3-4 mac min's and use network rendering on the fuckers... that should do the trick

irinasp 10-08-2012 06:44 AM

time to throw it out of the window?

You might want to wait a few weeks before buying a Mini ...

Mac mini supply drying up, could signal Ivy Bridge update

pornmasta 10-08-2012 10:01 PM

it's time to buy another one

NETbilling 10-08-2012 10:38 PM

Out of the 30 or so macs that we have owned over the years, we have had trouble on with one of them and it was during the "clone" days. If you cannot figure it out, the Apple store can surely help you. I have a Mac mini as my desktop comp at the office running a 30" cinema display and another 24" monitor side by side. It is fast and runs great but I don't render video so you may want something more powerful that you can add much more ram to as well.

Apple is total shit.

I've used their computers, and didn't like them. The ONLY apple product I ever purchased was an iPod Touch 4g. Which worked GREAT for a year.. as I kept extra careful care of it. Battery cycles, the works.

Then.. just around the one year mark.. no updates, no anything.. all of the sudden BAM.. My battery went from STELLAR (been working hard to get the most out of it) to total shit in a single day.. Has never been the same since no matter what I try to do to get it back to how it was.

Therefore,

this week.. I'm going to by a fucking Samsung MP3 player.. (their version of the ipod touch). Which is only $120 at best buy and has a slot for a 32gb memory card.

Fuck you APPLE AND YOUR SELF DESTRUCT TIMERS SO I KEEP ON BUYING THE NEW BULLSHIT THAT JUST CAME OUT!

Your mac didn't crash. Your toe hit the power button. Macs are rock solid and don't crash silly.
