Hiring Models That Refuse To Speak On The Phone?
I've noticed a new trend lately - models are no longer willing to speak to you over the phone, at all, even if it's just to confirm a shoot!
Anyone else experiencing this phenomenon, and if so, how do you handle it? Am I wrong to expect a verbal confirmation in 2012? Two weeks ago I had a no-show. All shoot details were explained via emails - time, concept, wardrobe, etc. The studio was all set up, but the model never showed up, or called. She never offered a number so I couldn't call her to see what was going on, so I was just screwed. Of course, even if she had given me a number, I could have called and she could have ignored the call, but still, this lack of verbal communication is getting ridiculous nowadays. Last week I had a model write me multiple paragraphs about how her schedule was too busy to allow her the time to have a phone conversation, but that I was welcome to text her. So, you have the time to type out your thoughts, but a 2 minute conversation is off the table?! Any thoughts? |
WILL NOT do it. They must talk to me on the phone to confirm so I know they are real. Not only that, I need the # so when they call when they are late, which they will be. And if they get lost, which the will.
|
It might be more a trend with younger people then exclusive to porn models, like take my 2 daughters monthly phone usage, they will send 5000-10000 text messages and yet only maybe 100 minutes of voice. :pimp

You must be crazy not to talk to them on the phone it could be anybody turning up
|
no call =no shoot.
|
I wouldn't hire them without speaking on the phone first.
|
I agree that it's generational. Models over 30 yrs old are more likely to be okay with some level of phone interaction, but models under 30 are much more opposed to the idea, and it's getting very annoying.
If you were applying for a real job and you tell you perspective employer that you do not use the phone, how likely is it that you would be hired? I know modeling is not exactly the same, but still... YOU are hiring the model - YOU are PAYING the model - so shouldn't they have to comply with YOUR booking/employment rules? Visit a modeling site message board, and you would think the models are in charge of the rules now. This seems to be the younger generations impression. I just don't get it, and I definitely don't like it! I guess I'm really old now.... |

I meet them first to see if they look like pictures and to sign the release before I even plan a photoshoot. If the girl cant meet me 20 minutes once to get a lot of photoshoot job after then she unlikely to show at the shoot.

i cant afford to make a phone call... :(

We have been getting the same thing.

Use different models. You call the shots, it's your shoot.

And since most of them are coming HERE, how they get LOST, is beyond me...but, they do! {or SAY they did, as an excuse for...BEING LATE!} |
Depends. If local and younger, fine. If agency, fine. If unknown and being flown in there will be a Skype video call.
And when I say this I mean texting is fine. Not having their number at all is weird. |

I never ever book models via phone. Like requiring that would be a dealbreaker. I used to occasionally have models who wanted to chat on the phone, but my feeling was that it is not a date. This is never an issue any more, probably for the generational issue mentioned.
Why do you all want to chat talent up on the phone beforehand? I get why you might want to see them in person before booking and I get why you'd decide to just trust that they still look like their pics and the pics are not overly retouched. But what does their phone chat have to do with what they will look like on camera? |

Presumably someone would not be able to get on the plane, unless her name matched what she asked you to reserve under. I don't think I have ever bought a plane ticket for someone who was an entirely unknown quantity i.e. a total stranger with nobody known in common. Maybe this is just the nature of my specific niche and situation. What booking methodology are you using where it would be possible that you are actually talking to a guy who is getting off on the convo and looking for free airfare? |
If she can't arouse me,I don't use her
|
Your biggest concern should be making them send an MMS with what they look like on the day you decide that you are booking them. So much can change in even a months time.

some young people are shy to talk on the phone, many of them

There is an age line where they all want to text versus talk. I am sure it is worse with models who are younger and broke. If you are texting, you have their number.

most of them definitely hate voice phone calls. my model catie minx, unless it's absolutely necessary meaning it's too involved and complicated for texting, trouble shooting webcam/computer problems, won't talk voice.

It happens all of the time. Nothing new there in regards to the phone.

From now on I will go over all details by email, as needed, but when the model asks for my studio location, I will only let them know verbally, via a phone call. That's my new rule, so No Call = No Shoot, and that's just how it goes. |
Why aren't you hand writing them letters? Don't you know that's the only polite way to communicate with people? It's a new generation grandpa.
Young girls need the least amount of connection in their communication, because they are afraid and/or shy. You must remember them passing notes in class? You are a little behind on your observations though, no girls calling, less girls texting, more girls using facebook chat. What would you do if you lived in another country where girls didn't speak English? What could you possibly say to them on the phone that couldn't be made more clear in an email. After living abroad, I prefer never to talk with models on the phone anymore, it takes too much of my time and they are less willing to give a phone number than an email or Facebook address. You are just being stubborn old men, clinging to the past generations technology. In fact I prefer models who do not speak at all. |

I would go over details on the phone. You would be shocked the amount of people that glance emails and dont actually read them. Also once again for a real job, you would be expected to be able to speak on the phone. I assume you pay in money so you deserve the same right. |
Don't hire. First sign they are fukt in the head.

Girl can't talk on the phone. Can't get the job. |

Only talking to the female voice, and listening closely to hear reaction to questions, can assist in planning a perfect shoot. Personality is very important - if the girl is a bitch, if she sounds like she is on some drugs that will make her photograph less than perfectly, she needs to be skipped over for a higher quality candidate. |
facebook chat made them somekind of non speak zoombies

Gen Y losers seem to have this idea that voice communication is too confrontational and texting is preferred so they can ignore you if they feel like being douchy or flakey, or both.
Fuck that shit, no matter what age succesful people communicate and losers dont. |
Speak right away, alot of dudes wack off thinking about talking to producers and waste your time ;) lol.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
Not only that, I've text and emailed models at length only to find out it was just people trying to get info or who the fuck knows what they were doing but the girl was fake. It happens. Quote:

Many many years ago, before SMS, before the Internet took off, in fact before WW1. :winkwink:
While in the UK I advertised in magazines for models. At least once a week I had a guy phoning on behalf of his GF or wife who had just gone shopping, or too scared to talk, or he wanted the info first to check it out for her. OR and these were the funniest a guy talking in a high pitched voice pretending to be a girl. I would tell them to :321GFY A girl who can't talk on the phone, isn't any use to me. What I have to ask those who do entertain such chats is. WTF are you doing? |
Me: Can you do a real voice call? I don't to text.
Model: Is that an app? I don't know how to do that? |
