Large sized soft drinks banned in New York?

I just heard that large sized soft drinks were banned in New York? I'm not sure if this is a joke or for real. Did they also ban doughnut shops, fast food joints, and junk food?

:1orglaugh

They should. Freedom is fine until its tax payers end up paying for the morbidly obese chain smoking alcoholics who spend their welfare checks on lottery tickets in a society that now openly accepts gluttony as a lifestyle.

There is a loop-hole. Now the med is called a small, a large is called a med and a small is called a shot so when you get a med you are really getting a large

Rather then ban freedom for everyone, how about simply not allowing people to use force to redistribute wealth to those that chose badly.

We could introduce the truly radiical idea that you have freedom, and that, with freedom, you also get responsiblity for your choices. The good thing about the 10th amendment, (which is being slowly destroyed), is that you get a choice of what system to live under. You can live in a nanny state like NY, or move elsewhere to a place that suits your better.

Of course, with the vast over reaching of the federal government it's pretty hard to escape these days, but.....

.Just a thought.

There was an episode of Celebrity Fit Club way back when where a rapper was using that argument "i'm just big boned" etc. So Ian decided to tackle that myth and put him down.. sent him to the hospital for bone density scans and in a 1 in a million chance, he had abnormally dense bones. Bad message of course to send, but funny in how it played out.

no large drinks but you can still buy cigs...stupid law

In other news, they've now started offering a med sized drink in NY that is pure syrup.

baddog 10-02-2012 10:12 AM

If you want the government to pay for your health care, they should ban crap people eat.

I agree 100% if that were possible. But there are no perfect ways to go about it.

I would like to see people should have to show proof of employment before they do a lot of things in my opinion, like buy lottery tickets, cigarettes, beer etc. I don't think people should be allowed to shit out unlimited kids with no ability to pay for them and where the father has no intention to father them/support them. I think that welfare is fine but firmly believe that handouts also hobble people when you don't demand more from people and where a basic innate human (particularly female) need is for security and stability and welfare offers that. I think people should be drug tested if they are receiving any sort of benefits. I think we need to change the USA back to a place that demands more, expects more and celebrates success rather than catering to the lowest common denominator, lowering standards and expectations. I think schools should be improved and the educational system should demand excellence from students rather than dumb down the entire system for the fear that some kids feelings might be hurt. Your feelings need to be hurt. Thats where great parenting is supposed to follow and lessons are supposed to be taught and learned. I think we should stop as a society giving everyone a fucking participation trophy just for being there which sends a horrible message and also totally destroys the idea of rewarding excellence to begin with. I think we should stop all the retarded fucking childrens programming that tells kids they are all special and unique in their own way and start telling them "if you want it, you're going to have to work for it AND life is unfair, some of you will have to work much harder for it than others - but that just is what it is".

I think a lot of things - most of them involve a great deal of individual accountability which of course is an increasingly unpopular notion in the age of the instant gratification, self serving, narcissistic assholes that we live in.

"redistribute wealth".. sound byte alert. sound byte alert.

They're more commonly and historically known as taxes.

No need to go all "class warfare" with it. :winkwink:

Besides, it's only a NY City thing. They also ban concealed weapons there even if you have a license from the state.

And as for the OP, they already banned transfats for fried foods and require calorie counts for junk foods. So... yeah pretty much all of it is done by government in it's role as regulator.
Thats not a position, just a statement of where it's kind of at.

MissKriss 10-02-2012 10:59 AM

Oh, geeze! I wish the government would leave my sodas and my vagina alone!!!
