What to do in Daytona Beach?
Going down there for a few days end of November with the wife and her family.
What's there to do down there? I saw something about a boardwalk and pier? |
No one really?
|
At the end of November, don't plan on being at the beach all that much...
Take in the Daytona Speedway museum. That's all I got. ;-) |
Daytona Beach sucks imo. It was a great place to visit a long time ago. Today it is run down, over crowded with teen agers in heat and drunken retirees. The boardwalk is kind of like the Atlantic City boardwalk in its old crummy days.
Depending on what you are looking for, there are other places in Florida that I would much rather visit. For a family vacation and to enjoy the beach I would pick Destin any days! |
I have not been there in many years, but yeah, they do have a very long pier that goes out to where the water must be 6 or 7 feet deep. That seemed like the shallowest beach I have seen. I don't remember a boardwalk, but you can drive on the beach.
Boot Hill Saloon, Boot Hill . . . . I'll have to get my album out, too many years ago. |
Yeah Drive over to Orlando and take them to Disney... Daytona Beach sucks, it's dirty and crime ridden.

As others suggest take them to Disney. I used to live on Daytona Beach and it's far past it's days in the sun.
After the 3 hurricanes went through there I think it was 2004 the place went extremely downhill. Granted it was already headed in that direction, but the hurricanes came in and destroyed loads of the old hotels & condos but the city condemned most of them and wouldn't let them rebuild. The idea was to force the spring break "party" crowd away in exchange for retired, family crowed. The problem was the economy hit the shit right at the same time and you ended up with no one buying any of the new condos and tons of half torn down , abandon or vacant buildings all over the place. The place was a major shit hole when I moved out of there. It's been a few years but with the current economy I can't imagine it's changed much. |
Museum at the speedway is cool, as posted above.
Check and see if the driving experience is open that week. Its a blast riding around the track at high speed. |
Daytona is not worth visiting.
The hotels on the beach are old and poorly kept. You WILL see mold, water stains and chipping paint. There is nothing to do on the beach side besides a little waterpark near the boardwalk. Only thing that keeps them in ANY conversation is racing. Save your money and go elsewhere. |
Daytona used to be fun years ago.
There is really only two things to do there. Go to the track. I see you are already going, so check that off the list. You can go up there on just about any day and watch a few cars do some laps. Second... drive on the beach. I think it's $5. Yes you can drive your car on the beach. Don't bother breaking out your camera in hopes to see some ass though. It's 99% fatasses and ugly people. The hotels are gross. Especially on the beach. Do yourself a favor and just don't stay on the beach unless you want to get price gouged for so so accommodations, or worse, overpay for a foul urine odor room with lots of sea oats (cockroaches). Other then that there are a couple strip clubs. Don't expect them to grind or rub one out for you though. |
Oh, I forgot to mention... if you go swimming, just remember that the area is well known for being the shark attack capital of the united states.

Drink a lot, and go get a DUI
|
There's nothing there. Its a shithole. Why not go someplace nice in Florida?
|
If you want to take them to Disney hit me up, and hit me up anyways and we'll see if we can grab a beer :) Maybe we'll wrangle Adam in as well
|
I love Daytona. Shithole was going to be the word I used to describe it...but couldn't bring myself too...because I do love it.
I see someone beat me to it. Yeah...it is a shithole and I still love it. |
I have a friend who lives near there. NOTHING to do but drink and shoot possums. :)
